Below you will find news and information about the Republic School District. As a reminder, regular issues of Tiger Talk will be distributed on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month during the school year. Two summer issues in June and July will be distributed as well.
Major Saver Discount Card Fundraiser Nov. 14-30























The 2018 Major Saver Discount Card campaign for the Republic School District will take place November 14-30th! Please consider purchasing a Major Saver card from a Republic EC, elementary or RMS student! You can also purchase at https://www.majorsaver.com/cards/. The cards are only $15 and are loaded with tons of great local offers! Proceeds benefit Republic School District and the Republic Community Foundation.

TAKE NOTE:  Due to the inclement weather in the Kansas City area our Major Saver representative was unable to visit our schools on Monday, November 26 th .  The bonus prize that was to be awarded on Monday will now be on Tuesday.  Major Saver will also extend the sale until Friday, November 30 th  to make up for not being on site Monday.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Winter Break
The Republic School District will be closed for Winter Break on December 24-January 1. In addition, students will not attend school on Wednesday, January 2 for a teacher work day. The second semester will begin on Tuesday, January 3. For families in need of childcare, Cub Care through the STRIPES 360 program will be available for kindergarten through 8th grade students on limited days throughout this break.  CLICK HERE for more information.
Board of Education Meeting Recap
At the November 15 Board of Education meeting the adoption of the agenda and approval of consent items ( found on BoardDocs) took place after the Pledge of Allegiance. The MSBA monthly report was also viewed.

The October RepMO Hero of the Month, RMS 6th grade PE teacher, Brandon Weldy was honored by the Board of Education. See the section below for more on Coach Weldy.

Each month a building is spotlighted, and for November the building was RMS. CLICK HERE to watch the video the building put together to share.

The "student spotlight" section of the meeting highlighted the after school clubs at Sweeny Elementary. The students and Sweeny team members pictured here shared about the various clubs available to target all types of student interests. The clubs have been so popular that over half of the student population at Sweeny participate! CLICK HERE to watch their video.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chance Wistrom provided a monthly update to the Board regarding facilities, elementary boundaries, state assessment activity, finance and district highlights.

There were no individual discussion items on the agenda. The Board did take action on the following items, which were all approved More information can be found on BoardDocs.
  • High school curriculum additions
  • Board of election filing dates
  • Partnership with Burrell Mental Health
The next regular meeting will take place on December 20 at 7:00 p.m.

NOVEMBER 21:
Lyon Elementary kicked off their leadership teams with an expo yesterday! Students had the opportunity to visit booths about each leadership team to select their top choice. The Lyon staff did a great job "selling" the clubs they are leading to the kids! Every single student will serve on a team when the process is completed! #leaderinme #repmoproud    

NOVEMBER 21:  The Today Show story about Price 5th grader, Aubrey Thrasher aired early this morning! If you missed it, you can catch it BY CLICKING HERE . What an incredible and inspirational journey of an amazing little girl! We are #repmoproud of you, Aubrey!!!
    







NOVEMBER 20:  The RMS assembly was really
 exciting today! The school was presented with TWO grants!! A HUGE "THANK YOU" goes out to the Republic Community Foundation for the $5000 Rural Ozarks Health Initiative grant! WOW!!! And also to Republic McDonald's for the $500 Balanced, Active Lifestyle grant! Both will be used for resources and tools to meet student needs. We are so appreciative of these gifts and organizations! #repmoproud

 
NOVEMBER 19: Any Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade watchers out there?! We've got another reason for you to watch this Thursday morning! Our very own Maggie Moncado, junior at RHS, has been invited to join Macy's Great American Marching Band who will march and perform in the parade! Maggie is one of 185 high school musicians from across the country selected for this honor. WOW!! She will be playing the tenor saxophone. We are soooo #repmoproud of Maggie as she represents RepMO in the Big Apple!

NOVEMBER 19:
Did you all see The Wizard of Oz by The RHS Tiger Theatre? WOW!!! It was AWESOME!! Here are some photos of the production. Great work to everyone who was involved! We can't wait to see what you come up with for the spring play! #repmoproud

October RepMO Hero: Coach Brandon Weldy

We are excited to announce that Brandon Weldy, 6th Grade PE Coach, has been selected as the OCTOBER REPMO HERO OF THE MONTH!!! Coach Weldy's giving spirit, fun humor and work ethic are to be commended. He is being recognized for these attributes and his commitment to going above the call of duty to meet the needs of students and fellow teammates.

Below is a compilation of the nominations received from district employees in regards to Coach Weldy. He will be honored at an upcoming Board of Education meeting, and will also receive $500 to be spent on the resources of his choice. We are so thankful to call you a RepMO Tiger, Coach Weldy!

Coach Weldy is a true community HERO!!! He goes the extra mile to connect and build relationships with students, would do anything for his coworkers and can always be found ring-leading an effort to help someone in need. Students are always engaged in his lessons and feel important when they walk into his gym. He goes the extra mile in the gym as a teacher to help students connect physical education with core curriculum, technology and life skills. He also is a well-respected coach who pushes his players to not only be successful athletes, but good men. Coach Weldy is truly an asset to RMS, and we are proud to call him ours!
