What Do You Fear?
In the Time of Herod, We Long for God to Break In
Luke 1:5-13, Lamentations 3:55-57
Advent is a season of waiting to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus Christ. This time of anticipation creates space for us to reflect and examine our joys, but also our fears. What do we fear in today’s world? Join us this Sunday for worship as we light the Advent candle of Hope and reflect on how to incorporate hope in our daily lives. Through song, word, and prayer, we will hear the story of an angel visiting Zechariah during the time of Herod’s rule. Following worship, you are invited to Plymouth Hall for the first Advent Art Brunch in Plymouth Hall or coffee hour in the link. We’re looking forward to worshipping with you on the First Sunday of Advent.

Music Sunday Worship

| “Gaudete” – Latin for “rejoice” – marks the third Sunday of Advent, a joyful midpoint in our season of anticipation. Celebrate the joy of Gaudete with our Chancel Choir and musicians as they present carols from Piae Cantiones (1582), beautifully arranged for choir and woodwinds by Anders Öhrwall. Rejoice with us in song, hope, and hearts made ready for Christ’s coming. | | | | |
Blue Christmas Evening Prayer
Thursday, 12/18, 6:00 p.m. | Chapel
| Advent shimmers with twinkling lights and cheerful music, yet for many, the season also brings shadows – grief, loneliness, weariness that can make the joy of Christmas feel distant. On this evening near the Winter Solstice, the Longest Night, we gather in gentle community to honor the fullness of our hearts, both bright and blustery. Surrounded by Scripture, poetry, soft carols, and the glow of candlelight, we make space to name our pain, seek hope, and embrace healing together. A simple soup supper follows in the Standish Room. | | | | |
