Christ the King School Newsletter - November 5, 2019
Dear Christ the King Catholic School Families,

This week our school community is discovering the second fruit of the Holy Spirit, “Joy”. I truly believe joy is a virtue that brings out the best in each of us. With joy we find other virtues like humility, gratitude, and peace lighting the way.

A wonderful verse from the bible, Romans 15:13, that was shared with our community at morning prayer/assembly to commence this week was, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit .”

Amazing how this verse envelopes the fruit of joy , this past year’s theme of hope , and this year’s transformative theme of the Holy Spirit . This past week three events created tremendous joy in our community.

The annual Father Daughter dance is an awesome tradition. It was so great seeing our dads and daughters this past Saturday evening all dressed up for such a special occasion. A father’s imprint in the lives of their daughters, and children, is irreplaceable.
Tremendous gratitude to Carie McGrane, Kirsten Sawyer, Laura Nunez-Galleno, Beverly Hinken, Melody Braganza, Arlene Santos, Cynthia Cormier, Jaffe Leffler, Ksenia Smerechuk, Lori Chapman, Eileen Brinker, and Kristine Nalagan for making this evening so special, memorable, and elegant for our dads and daughters.
In addition, sixth and eighth graders participated in on-campus retreat delivered by Net Ministries this past week:

NET Ministries challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. Every August, 175 young Catholics aged 18-28 leave behind their jobs, school, family, and friends to devote nine months to serving with the National Evangelization Teams (NET). Divided into 16 teams, they travel across the U.S. for nine months to share the Gospel with young people and their families. Since 1981, NET teams have led over 34,000 retreats and ministered to more than 2.1 million young Catholics.

The retreats were highly enriching and successful. Special thanks to Teresa Halsey, Father Mario, Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Baker and to the countless middle school parents for providing food, treats, snacks, desserts, and air mattresses to the Net Ministry Team. Their generosity and sacrifice were tremendous and helped make the retreats so positive!

Perhaps the greatest joy was welcoming home our Pastor, Father Paulson, from his trip to India as he celebrated this past Friday’s All Saints Mass hours upon returning. We are blessed by a pastor who is a great teacher, a strong leader, and a benevolent friend to us all.

Abundant blessings,

Mr. Silveira
Principal
Christ the King Catholic School
Prayers
Please join us in praying for the mother-in-law of Mrs. Cheshareck, our 4th grade instructional assistant who is ill. We continue to pray for the father of Mrs. Callahan our 5th grade IA and grandfather of Jake (Gr. 4), Abigail (Class of 2019), and Katie (Class of 2016), the grandfather of Miss Halsey, for Mike Maki, and for Quinn Gurnett. We pray for the families of all these special people, for the intentions of our school and parish staff, for the needs and cares of others, and for all those who are suffering from illness, loss, loneliness or other challenges. May God keep us all in His tender and loving care.

Reminders
Choir is tomorrow, November 5th from 12pm-1:15pm. This Wednesday is a minimum day so choir will follow right after school. We are extending practice by 15 minutes this Wednesday to prepare for Friday, when we will not have our normal accompanist, Dr. Hurlbut. Therefore, rehearsal will be from 12:20pm-1:15pm. Please have your children pack a lunch as we will eat in the 6th grade room from 12pm-12:20. Thank you and we look forward to seeing your children tomorrow!!
Picture Retake Day will be this Thursday, November 7th beginning at 8:15. It is a dress uniform day for all students having their pictures taken (absent on picture day and retakes) For retakes, please send in the original picture packet you received to school with your child.
As of November 8th, the Diocese will automatically opt-in all cell phone contacts in SchoolMessenger, a part of our PowerSchool system that we use for attendance calls and have available as an emergency notification system.

At 10am, every parent and staff member will receive a text from the Diocese saying "You have been opted-in to receive SMS messages from Diocese of Oakland Schools. To opt out, reply No or Stop." As new phone numbers are given to the school office, the message will be sent to these numbers as well. This is a good system; we ask that you do not reply No or Stop unless you truly do not want to be notified via your cell phone.
School Directories labeled with your family name went home last Wednesday with the oldest child in your family. Please check backpacks if you haven't gotten yours. Additional directories are available in the School Office for $5.

Father Daughter Dance
T hank you to all the Flappers and Dappers who attended the Father-Daughter Dance on Saturday! We hope you had a fun night! We are grateful that we had over 250 in attendance!
We were able to make this event possible because of our dedicated committee. We had many committee members and volunteers who were willing to help out in every way possible – from attending meetings, organizing the coveted raffle baskets, setting up for the event, managing the photo line the night of and cleaning up during and after the event. While we are unable to name every individual who helped us for this event, please know that your efforts do not go unrecognized and unappreciated. We, however, would like to especially thank Kirsten Sawyer (past chair who guided us every step of the way), Beverly Hinken (who managed all RSVPs and raffle and ticket sales), Cris Branch and Melody Braganza (décor extraordinaires), Arlene Santos (who designed the invitations) and Cynthia Cormier, Jaffe Leffler, Kseniya Smerechuk and Lori Chapman (who all donated raffle baskets). Thank you to Eileen Brinker for coordinating the 8 th grade girls’ performance for all to enjoy. Finally, a huge thank you to Kristine Nalagan from Scrumpoptious who donated delicious desserts! It was a true honor to chair this event! And, we sincerely hope all the Fathers and Daughters found a moment to appreciate the special night you shared with one another!

- Laura Nunez-Galleno and Carie McGrane
