Raptors to Celebrate Blue Ribbon Week With Scavenger Hunt, Prizes, and Fun!

To celebrate our designation as a National Blue Ribbon School, AMHS will celebrate Blue Ribbon Week November 12-15. A major event will be a Scavenger Hunt. Check out the "rules" at this link so students know what to find each day! Also see the graphic above for more daily details!

In addition to the Red Cross Relief drive that is in the AMHS Building 7 Key, CCSD has decided to adopt Mitchell County Schools in Bakersville, NC. Check out the list of recommended donations on thie list above. Collections will begin Monday, October 28, and will run through Friday, November 8.

Raptor Athletics

The AMHS Women's & Men's Cross Country (XC) teams performed exceptionally well at the Region VI-AA championships Wednesday evening at Middleburg Plantation. The women's team came in 2nd place overall with Cate Arrants '25, Evie Hassid '28, and Rhythm Harris '29 earning all-Region VI-AA honors for finishing in the top 10. The men's team won the region championship in an ultra-close race. Quinn Swanton '25 finished 1st overall and earned all-Region VI-AA honors along with teammates Peyton Johnson '25, Hunter Kuhnell '25, and Everett Landrith '25, who all finished in the top 10.

Alaina Jarrett '25 earned All-State Women's Volleyball honors among all A, AA, and AAA players.

Akiera Sanchez '25 earned AA All-State honors for her performance at the SCHSL's AA Women's Golf championships this past week. I believe this is her 3rd consecutive all-state award!

One80 Place, a facility that provides support, shelter, food, and resources for homeless people in the community, is seeking student involvement in a new program called Students Striving To End Homelessness! Students Striving To End Homelessness is a dynamic leadership and community engagement program that will allow high school students to advocate for One80 Place and its mission to end homelessness while gaining leadership skills, community service hours, college/career readiness and so much more. The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund provides up to $10,000 per year in college scholarships for high-achieving South Carolina students with a demonstrated financial need (who will be attending an eligible South Carolina college/university).

Spend Spring Break 2025 in Costa Rica! Raptors are invited to consider this amazing opportunity to explore the ecology of Costa Rica during spring break of 2025. Students will conduct research on leatherback sea turtles AND earn 30 hours of community service. Email Ms. Phillips (karla_phillips@charleston.k12.sc.us) with any questions.

Volunteer Hours Form


Volunteers are needed for the Walk for Autism on April 26, 2025 from 7 am to 1:30 pm.  Any students wishing to volunteer can come for part of the hours or all. If interested in volunteering please contact Rose O'Neal at 843-553-1316 or rrzoneal@hotmail.com

 

Volunteers will assist in several tasks: setting up tables and tents; manning jump castles, food stations, silent auction tables, merchandise table, ticket sales and at the end of the event breaking down tables and tents along with clean up.

Our Lady of Mercy offers volunteer opportunities with various community events, a clothing closet, Downtown soup kitchen, food pantry and after school activities. There are two locations that are welcoming volunteers, one is Downtown on America Street and the other is the primary campus located at 1684 Brownswood Road on John Island. All volunteers have orientation sessions and additional online training if they are working with the afterschool programs. The minimum age required to volunteer is 16.
