An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Community,

It's been a busy week at school! Our second-fifth graders had the opportunity to participate in Kids Voting. We are grateful for the volunteers who offer this civic minded program to our students.

Congratulations to our newly elected School Board members including C. Colin Cox, Laura McClendon, Ken Morrison and Heather Wilsey.

Please join us next Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 for Math Night in the PSI Gymnasium. It is a self-guided night activity designed for families to have fun together with math.

As a reminder, please label your child(ren)'s boots, snowpants, jackets, etc. As we know, items tend to get left around our building, and we want to ensure that we can return things to our students.

Have a great week, and keep reading!

A Message Regarding Building Temperature
There have been questions and concerns about heating in our new facility, and I wanted to share some information that I learned with you. As you know, there have been (and still are) contractors in the building continuing to make adjustments to get the system working optimally.
The system that is installed in our building is a "Trane Building Automation System." It is designed to meet ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) standards of 10 air changes per hour and room temperatures between 68-76. In St. Louis Park, we are trying to standardize the building around 69-73 degrees. Currently, there are a few rooms in our building operating outside of these parameters.
From time to time, tweaks will need to be made. Issues could arise in these mechanical systems that require adjustments.
As with other changes during the last few months, I want to thank you for your patience as we work together to have the best possible safe and nurturing learning (and teaching) environments.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Children First Seeks New Executive Director

Children First, the first community-wide initiative in the country with a mission to engage adults in the promotion of the 40 developmental assets, is currently conducting a national search for its next Executive Director.

Karen Atkinson, who served for 25 years as the organization’s first Executive Director, retired this past summer. The Executive Committee of Children First has established a target date of February of 2020 for the new Executive Director to begin his or her duties.

The Executive Director will serve as the community catalyst promoting the importance of the 40 developmental assets in the lives of young people in the St. Louis Park community. The Executive Director will understand the importance of leading from different vantage points and building social capital, and will balance the work of the initiative with the need to secure funding for its continued success.
