We'll lead registered participants on a moderately strenuous 4-mile hike to explore a unique section of the CT. Rapid Learning Whitewater Program
! This dynamic program offers formal and equipped kayak instruction for beginner and seasoned kayakers to learn and develop the skills necessary to safely and confidently paddle whitewater streams.
In the winter months, we move indoors to a heated pool at the
Hulsey Wellness Center
in Collegedale. Reservations, experience or equipment are NOT required to attend, and the first session is always free! Additional sessions:

It's that incredible time of year again where mother nature paints herself vivid shades of orange, red, and yellow and offers up cool breezes to make the colors dance and shake until the leaves break free from the clutches of their branches and drift to the ground. It might just be our favorite time of the year! As the season changes, we find ourselves getting outside more to soak up the cooler temps and the mesmerizing beauty of all the fall colors in Chattanooga.

Prentice Cooper State Forest
- A state forest with miles and miles of hiking trails and service roads for ATV's offer multiple views of the Tennessee River Gorge! There are backcountry sites for backpackers and a shooting range. Hunt Dates close the forest to all visitors except hunters, so be sure to check the website before you go. Nov. 1-3 is a Deer hunting date.

Raccoon Mountain
- Utilized primarily by mountain bikers for it's gnarly singletrack, and cyclists for the lightly trafficked roadways, the views of the Tennessee River Gorge from the visitor center are phenomenal. East Overlook and Laurel Point also offer some scenic views. Make a weekend of it! Stay at
Raccoon Mountain Campground
, hike/bike the trails or launch from the boat ramp.

Harrison Bay State Park

This Tennessee State Park located on Chickamauga Lake is only 20 minutes from dowtown Chattanooga. It offers campsites, a marina, fishing, canoe/kayak launches and a 4.5 mile trail loop for bikers and hikers.
Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park
- Located in the Cherokee National Forest in east Tennessee there are trees as far as the eye can see! Take a scenic drive, get out and hike to an overlook, camp, or just sit quietly by the river and reflect on the beauty of nature.

Cloudland Canyon State Park
- The park has something for evryone including waterfall hikes, canyon views, RV or Tent camping, yurts and cabin rentals, disc golf, and mountain biking. Parking is $5 and worth every penny.
Fort Mountain State Park
- This Chatsworth-based park has an iconic overlook, hiking trails, camping and a small lake for a weekend in the woods. Day use fee is $5.

Tsali Recreation Area

If you're looking to get out of town and spend a weekend wandering in the woods, the
Tsali Recreation Area
in the Nantahala National Forest is a great place to get away and view the fall colors! There's a campground with 42 first come first serve sites, right next to mountain bike and horseback riding trails, and Fontana Lake with a boat launch. The Nantahala River forms the beautiful gorge and the AT passes right through it.

Head of the Hooch
November 2-3

Since 2005, The Head of the Hooch has taken place on the Tennessee River on the first weekend in November, with the finish line in front of the grandstand at Ross’s Landing in downtown Chattanooga, TN. The Head of the Hooch is a 5,000 meter (3.1 mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Hosted by Atlanta Rowing Club and Lookout Rowing Club, it's one of the largest head races in the US with 2,000+ entries and 20,000+ spectators. at Outdoor Chattanooga on Thursday, November 7 as they recount their journey and
pilgrimage from East Tennessee to the Camino de Santiago
as part of the first accessible group trip spearheaded by Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray of the documentary "I'll Push You". In this inaugural accessible pilgrimage, 10 individuals in wheelchairs and one visually impaired person completed 117km of the infamous pilgrimage trail to earn their Compestelo. The presentation is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Come meet these phenomenal women and leave inspired by their journey.

Cumberland Mountain State Park Guided Hike Series

Strap on your hiking boots and join
Cumberland Mountain State Park
every Friday in November at 11:00 am for their guided hiking series. Several hikes may be located off-site and will require driving to the trailhead from the park office. Each trail is considered moderate in difficulty. Please be equipped with sturdy shoes and a water bottle.
*A hike may be cancelled due to rain at the time of the activity* Check with the park office.
November 1 - Paved trail around the park (~1.5 miles)
November 8 - Cumberland Plateau Trail (~1.0 miles)
November 15 - Pioneer Long Loop Trail (~5.0 miles)

156th Anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park
as they commemorate the 156th Anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga with a series of special programs taking place throughout the weekend, including historical hikes and tours on Moccasin Bend, Orchard Knob, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge. The historic Cravens House, on Lookout Mountain, will also be open on Saturday and Sunday.
