Schools adopt budgets and upgrade plans
The Howard County Board of Education has adopted its Operating and Capital Budget Requests for the 2021-2022 school year (fiscal 2022), and Capital Improvement Program for fiscal 2023-2027. The board also approved its Long-Range Master Plan for fiscal 2022-2031. The budget requests have been submitted to Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. Learn more

BWI named ‘Best North American Airport’
BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport was named as the top North American airport in its size category in the 2020 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards. The annual awards are presented by Airports Council International World (ACI World).  
Arundel library drops fines
Officials from the Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) announced that all system materials are now fine free. Additionally, the library also waived $361,425 in old fines for customers. More than 28,000 people received the surprise savings. Find out more

CA approves FY ’22 budget
Columbia Association’s (CA) Board of Directors approved the organization’s fiscal 2022 budget. fiscal 2022 officially begins May 1, 2021 and ends April 30, 2022; estimated revenue for fiscal 2022 is $63.6 million, almost $20 million below the original estimate for the last fiscal year. Shore Bancshares, Severn Bancorp to merge
Shore Bancshares, of Easton, Md., the holding company of Shore United Bank; and Severn Bancorp, of Annapolis, the holding company of Severn Savings Bank, have entered into a definitive agreement under which Severn will merge with and into Shore in a stock and cash transaction valued at approximately $146 million (including common stock and stock options). Grace Expands Pharma portfolio
Columbia-based W. R. Grace & Co. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Fine Chemistry Services business (FCS) of Albemarle Corp. for approximately $570 million, including $300 million paid in cash at closing and $270 million funded through the issuance to Albemarle of non-participating preferred equity of a newly-created Grace subsidiary.
