Benefit Funds Launch New Healthy Babies Channel | | On June 23, the Benefit Funds launched an online Healthy Babies channel, which addresses maternal health during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care, as well as the health of members’ babies. The channel is the latest addition to the Healthy Living Resource Center, a site that promotes Healthy Minds, Healthy Eating, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Hearts and Healthy Relationships with Your Healthcare Providers. Through Healthy Babies, members can access articles, videos and workshops on topics ranging from nutrition and breastfeeding to what to expect during and after pregnancy. They can also find tools to help track their baby’s progress and enroll in the Benefit Funds’ maternal health program to attend free online classes, hear from a midwife, get check-ins from social workers and more. In keeping with the Benefit Funds’ holistic approach to care, the channel provides information on alternative providers such as midwives and doulas and how to access these benefits. This year, the Joint Boards of Trustees held their meeting on Monday, June 16. Executive Director Donna Rey, EdD, and Chief Administrative Officer Brandy Shiloh presented the Funds’ 2024 Year in Review and highlights from the first quarter of 2025. Ms. Shiloh gave a special report on the Family of Funds approach to cybersecurity and stemming fraud and abuse. Dr. Rey reported on the early results of the Benefit Funds’ mission to support better health outcomes for 1199SEIU members through the Healthy Living initiative. As she explained, the initiative empowers members to take a proactive approach to their health journey by offering programmatic choices and collaborations with participating institutions. She outlined the Benefit Funds’ ongoing partnerships with WeightWatchers® and Virta, as well as new partnerships with Ochsner Digital Medicine, FlyteHealth and AdvantageCare Physicians. As part of the initiative, the Benefit Funds promote primary care for all and cancer screening programs, and also address the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension among members. Dr. Rey also gave an overview of the expanded role the Wellness and Care Management departments have taken in supporting this mission to improve health outcomes for members.
At the meeting, Trustees also received updates on new features added to the Healthy Living Resource Center on the Benefit Funds’ website. The site, which launched in 2021, houses programs and services available to 1199SEIU members, as well as tips, videos, interactive tools, resources and portals to the major health systems’ employee wellness programs.

| | Training and Employment Funds’ CPT Program Continues Recruitment Efforts | | |
The demand for healthcare professionals has never been greater. The Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program was established to enable New Yorkers to further their education, advance their careers and make a meaningful impact in their communities—all at no cost to them or their employers.
The CPT Program is offered by the New York State Workforce Investment Organization, hosted by the Training and Employment Funds (TEF), in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Serving participants from New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, the CPT Program empowers healthcare workers to overcome educational hurdles, supporting them as they build sustainable, rewarding careers in healthcare by providing:

Access to education – CPT covers the full cost of training and certification programs and book stipends, eliminating financial barriers that might prevent workers from pursuing advanced roles in critical shortage areas like nursing, pharmacy tech, respiratory therapy and other high-demand occupations. In select occupations, the CPT benefits and resources are significantly higher than benefits available from the Training and Upgrading Fund.

Increased job security – Enhances employability by equipping workers with recognized qualifications, making them more competitive in the job market and meeting employer demand in occupations with acute workforce shortages.

| | Child Care Funds Celebrated FALC Pre-K Graduates in June | | |
On June 25, the 1199SEIU Child Care Fund’s (CCF) Future of America Learning Center (FALC) celebrated the end of the 2024–2025 school year at a graduation ceremony held in the gymnasium of PS 246 Poe Center, FALC’s school partner. The 54 graduating children from all three Pre-K classrooms performed songs and dances for their families, friends, teachers and CCF staff, and they declared their career goals as part of their annual tradition, “When I grow up, I want to be…” In addition, teachers and parents shared their memories and impressions of their experiences with FALC and their aspirations for the children.
FALC, which was established in 1993 and is located in the Fordham section of the Bronx, provides children ages 2 to 5 with a nurturing and stimulating educational environment, as well as cultural, racial, ethnic and economic diversity that fosters cooperative experiences.
