Building on the success of a 2022 pilot program, the Benefit Funds are expanding the Primary Care for All initiative to help more 1199SEIU members achieve better health outcomes.
The pilot focused on members living in Brooklyn and the Bronx—areas where a large proportion of our membership resides. Partnering with two hospital-based systems with primary care capacity, the Benefit Funds identified members who had not visited a primary care provider (PCP) in the past three years. Outreach efforts encouraged these individuals to schedule checkups, resulting in 27 percent of the members returning to care. Many were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension and are now receiving ongoing treatment.
Now, the program is entering its next phase. To reach even more members, Primary Care for All will expand access to additional primary care partnerships, promote connections with providers who best meet members’ individual needs and offer more virtual care options, including through Teladoc Health Primary360.
Finding a PCP and building a strong, ongoing relationship with them is a key part of the Benefit Funds’ Healthy Living initiative, launched by Executive Director Donna Rey in 2023. As part of this initiative, the Benefit Funds created the Healthy Living Resource Center on the Benefit Funds’ website, a centralized hub for the programs and services available to members. Within it, the Healthy Provider Relationships section offers tools and guidance to help members build meaningful partnerships with their healthcare providers, ensuring they receive consistent, high-quality care.
We encourage all 1199SEIU members to explore these resources at www.1199SEIUBenefits.org/HealthyLiving.
