National Benefit Fund Partners with WeightWatchers to Support Members’ Health Journeys

As part of its “Healthy Living” initiative, the National Benefit Fund launched a partnership with WeightWatchers, which provides a comprehensive approach to wellness and weight loss. Beginning today, members can download the WeightWatchers app and sign up for the Premium program that includes in-person or virtual workshops with a health coach, meal and activity tracking, healthy recipes, on-demand fitness and mindfulness videos, tips to improve sleep and more. In addition, members will have access to health coaches 24 hours a day, seven days a week to offer unlimited support or answer questions. Members only pay $8 per month. Spouses and dependents age 18 and older can qualify for a discounted rate of $29 per month. For the more than 28 percent of 1199SEIU members, spouses and dependents living with prediabetes or diabetes, we are also offering WeightWatchers’ specialized track at no cost. This program includes tailored meal planning, health coaches and community groups for those living with these conditions.

Training and Employment Funds to Debut Patient Care Technician Program

In spring 2023, the 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) will launch the Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program to help members gain the skills and knowledge they need to perform essential tasks in the workplace and work alongside nurses and to assist patients in hospital settings. The program is open to 1199SEIU members who have met their one-year work anniversaries, have at least one year of experience working as Certified Nursing Assistants and have earned at least a high school diploma or the equivalent. The program will be available at Funds Headquarters at 498 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. For more information, members may call 844-TEF-1199.

Child Care Corporation Kicks Off Youth Mentoring Program Application Period

The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation’s (CCC) 2023 Youth Mentoring Program (YMP) application period runs from January 3 to February 28. Eligible 1199SEIU members may apply through MyAccount. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Therefore, CCC recommends that members explore alternative summer program options if their child is not selected.

The YMP provides a six-week summer employment experience for 15- to 17-year-old children of 1199SEIU members at participating hospitals and nursing homes. In addition to giving them an inside look at potential healthcare careers, participants get professional development seminars, college admissions prep courses—including college engagement activities, career exploration and financial and mental wellness—and career counseling services, while helping to establish a future workforce of young professionals. For more information about the YMP, members may email [email protected], or call (212) 564-2220, ext. 3458. They may also visit www.1199SEIUBenefits.org/Childcare for more information about other Child Care Corporation or Child Care Fund programs.
