Benefit and Pension Funds’ Boards of Trustees Met in June

The 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds’ Boards of Trustees held their annual meetings on Wednesday, June 14 and Thursday, June 15. Executive Director Donna Rey, EdD, presented the Funds’ 2022 year in review and highlights from the first quarter of 2023, featuring the Funds’ new MyAccount mobile app, an advanced search function for the provider directory and the introduction of Zocdoc into the Funds’ provider network. Dr. Rey focused on the Funds’ ongoing initiatives to support better health outcomes for 1199SEIU members’ emotional and physical well-being through new programs, collaborations and engaging the members in a Healthy Living campaign. At the meeting, trustees were able to scan QR codes with their smart phones to hear from members themselves, through “Members’ Voices,” an interactive video display in which 1199SEIU members shared their “why”—their personal motivations that inspire them on their individual health journeys. Visit this link to view a video of one of these members, Nadine Brown, an Access Services Representative at Northwell-Cohen Children’s Medical Center, whose story was part of the display. Dr. Rey gave trustees a preview of the new Benefit Funds podcast, “Health Is the Key,” which is expected to launch later this year and will further inform and engage members on their health journeys.

Training and Employment Funds’ Prep Academy Helps Members Further Their Education and Advance Their Healthcare Careers

Child Care Corporation’s FALC Holds Second Annual Olympics/Field Day

On June 26, the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation’s Future of America Learning Center (FALC) held its second annual Olympics/Field Day for children ages 2 to 5. Due to inclement weather, FALC teachers quickly rerouted the planned outdoor event in a nearby park to a large indoor multi-purpose space to which they brought recreational props and equipment of hula hoops, balance beams and mats. Guided by FALC staff, the children wore vibrant tie-dye shirts representing each team and navigated obstacle courses in relay races, with parents, guests and staff participating. The event closed with all the children, staff and parents coming together for team photos.

FALC, which was established in 1993 and is located in the Fordham section of the Bronx, provides full-day, affordable, high-quality, educational child-care services to the children of working 1199SEIU parents and those from neighboring communities.
