Encourage Your 1199SEIU Employees to Complete the HCBF Household Survey

Following approval by the Home Care Benefit Fund (HCBF) Trustees of a new eligibility criterion to preserve members’ health benefits and protect the HCBF’s long-term sustainability, the Fund asked members to complete a brief survey of their household size and income. The new eligibility requirements will help ensure members can access health coverage either through the HCBF directly or through individual coverage (Essential Health Plan, Medicare or Medicaid), with supplemental benefits from the HCBF. Regardless of household income, members who work 100 hours or more a month for two consecutive months are eligible to receive health benefits.

The HCBF has communicated with members throughout the summer, requesting that they complete the survey to avoid interruption of their benefits. Most Home Care members have filled out their surveys. Today, the HCBF is sharing information with employers to encourage their 1199SEIU employees who have not yet completed the survey to do so. Members may complete the survey using one of the following methods:

  • Call BeneStream’s toll-free line at (833) 521-1981 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm to take the survey over the phone
  • Visit MyAccount at www.My1199Benefits.org.
  • Scan the QR code in the letter the HCBF mailed to them

Basil Paterson Scholarship Fundraiser Celebrated Tenth Year in September

The Home Care Industry Education Fund held its tenth annual Basil Paterson Scholarship Fundraiser on Tuesday, September 12. This year’s event honored George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and actor and activist Danny Glover. Co-chairing the event were Marc Kramer, President of the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, and Milly Silva, Secretary Treasurer of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. The cocktail reception and program were held at Funds’ headquarters, 498 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan.

The Basil Paterson Scholarship provides tuition assistance and financial support to home care workers enrolled in college and allied health certification programs. The awards include tuition credits, college fees, transportation and child-care expenses, a cash stipend for living expenses, and, when applicable, the cost of review courses for licensing exams. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an associate or bachelor’s degree course of study at a City University of New York or State University of New York college or in a New York State-approved certification program in an allied healthcare field.
