New Benefit Fund Partnership Supports the Mental Health of Members’ Children

Effective September 1, the 1199SEIU Benefit Funds are offering members a new benefit in partnership with Brightline, a virtual mental health provider with services designed specifically for children and teenagers. Brightline’s team of licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and coaches can help children and teens with conditions including ADHD, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, social-anxiety disorders and more. Parents receive support through a dedicated coach who will work with them to manage their children’s care and monitor their stress levels. Parents also have access to a digital platform that generates appointment reminders, tracks progress, and includes a library of informative articles and videos. After signing up online, members complete a short assessment of their family’s needs, which Brightline uses to determine which type of care would be the most appropriate for their child. For more information about Brightline, members may visit their website.

Child Care Fund Celebrated FALC June Graduates—and Looks to the Future

On September 7, the 1199SEIU Child Care Fund’s (CCF) Future of America Learning Center (FALC) begins its 2023–2024 academic year, welcoming students back to the classroom. In June, FALC bid farewell to graduates at the 2022–2023 school year ceremony, including presentations from 45 students from across FALC’s three classes. The children performed songs and dances for their families, friends, teachers and CCF staff, and they declared their career goals as part of their annual tradition, “When I grow up, I want to be…” In addition, teachers and parents shared their memories and impressions of their experiences with FALC, as well as their aspirations for the children.

FALC, established in 1993 and located in the Fordham section of the Bronx, provides full-day, affordable, high-quality, educational child-care services to the pre-kindergarten children of working 1199SEIU parents and those from neighboring communities. FALC also holds other events throughout the year, including an annual science fair, community outreach activities and educational field trips to museums around New York City. For more information about FALC, email [email protected] or call (212) 564-2220.
