Benefit Funds Engage Members to Get Their Flu Shot and COVID-19 Booster

The Benefit Funds have launched their annual campaign encouraging 1199SEIU members to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza to protect themselves, their families and their patients or residents from the virus—and help maintain a healthy workforce. The Benefit Funds are reaching out to members through all-member email reminders, educational videos on the Funds' website, social media channels and the fall issue of the member magazine, For Your Benefit. As a reminder, members enrolled in health coverage through the Benefit Funds can receive the vaccination from their participating provider or pharmacy with no out-of-pocket costs. In addition, as new variants of the COVID-19 virus circulate, the Benefit Funds are encouraging members to get their COVID-19 booster. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that it is safe to receive both vaccines at the same time.

Training and Employment Funds Offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing Stipend Program

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds’ (TEF) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Stipend Program is a release-time program in cooperation with healthcare institution partners. The program allows members, with employer approval, to have one day off from work per week to help them manage the demands of their nursing program, including attending classes, clinicals or studying, and their work schedule. Members are compensated for 7.5 hours of their workday at $125 to $175 per day, with the stipend based on their hourly rate, including differentials.

To be considered for the program, members must be employed with a TEF-contributing employer for at least one year, work full time as a Wage Class 1 employee, be enrolled in an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited BSN program taking a minimum of nine credits per semester, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75, and not have obtained an associate degree in nursing. Members who are registered nurses with an associate degree in nursing can participate in other TEF RN to BSN programs and should inquire at MyTEF. The BSN stipend program runs for 14 to 15 weeks during the fall and spring semesters. Members can register for the mandatory BSN Stipend Information Sessions, which are held in July and November, via MyTEF or by emailing [email protected]
