Home Care Benefit Fund Kicks Off Annual Flu Shot Campaign

The Home Care Benefit Fund has launched its annual campaign encouraging Home Care members to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza to protect themselves, their families and their clients from the virus. The Benefit Fund has begun reaching out to members through emails and social media channels. Flu shots are being offered in September and October at the Benefit Fund’s Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Hicksville sites. Members may make an appointment for a flu shot by visiting the Wellness Program scheduler, which is available in English, Spanish, Mandarin  and Russian, or by calling (646) 473-8960, option 3.  In addition, as new variants of the COVID-19 virus circulate, the Benefit Fund is encouraging members to check if their doctor recommends a COVID-19 booster.  As a reminder, members enrolled in health coverage through the Benefit Fund can receive vaccinations from their participating provider or pharmacy with no out-of-pocket costs.

Career Pathways Training Program Opens Doors for Home Health Aides

The Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program—offered by the New York State Workforce Investment Organization and hosted by the Training and Employment Funds—provides tuition assistance and dedicated support to healthcare workers pursuing their education in critical shortage areas. Tatiana Kondratyeva, a Home Health Aide who is studying to become a registered nurse at CUNY Lehman College, quickly realized she could not balance full-time work with the demands of her studies. However, with support from the CPT Program, she was able to shift her focus toward school. “Now I work mainly during school breaks to support myself while staying focused during the semester,” she says. For Tatiana, the impact of the CPT Program will continue beyond the completion of her formal studies. “After I graduate, I hope to give back—mentoring students, volunteering or working in community health,” she says. “I want to help others the way this program helped me.”  To learn more about the CPT Program, visit www.TEFCPT.org.
