Flu Shots Available for All Home Care Members
The Home Care Benefit Fund (HCBF) is providing free flu shots to all Home Care members at the Funds’ Manhattan headquarters and the Bronx, Brooklyn and Hicksville satellite offices. Please share the schedule below with your 1199SEIU employees and members. To make an appointment, members may visit the five-language Wellness Member Assistance Program scheduler or call the Wellness Department at (646) 473-8985.

Each year, in partnership with the Union and the industry, the HCBF helps educate 1199SEIU members on the importance of getting a flu shot. This year’s initiative will feature live online interactive sessions led by the Funds’ Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Van H. Dunn, outlining the threats posed by the flu, especially amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Dunn will respond to members’ questions and dispel common myths about getting the flu vaccine.

Health Careers College Core Curriculum Helps Members Obtain Healthcare Degrees
For almost 30 years, the Health Careers College Core Curriculum (HC4) has been helping adults obtain an associate or bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field. The program works with the College of Staten Island’s School of Health Sciences; Lehman College's new School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing; and Monroe College School of Allied Health and School of Nursing, enabling participants to take core prerequisite courses to complete most allied health degrees. HC4 students typically earn 20 to 36 credits before transitioning to coursework in their chosen majors. Participants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. If the diploma is from another country, it will be evaluated by the college the participant is planning to attend. If the diploma is written in a language other than English, it will have to be translated into English, and TEF will assist with this process. To date, more than 2,300 119SEIU members have completed the HC4 program. For more information about HC4, email [email protected].
