MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I would like to open with a heartfelt THANK YOU to our teachers, administrators, support staff, and Milton families who care deeply for our students and consistently show their support for them every day!

In preparing for the holiday season, it is a time to be joyful and thankful for all the things we have accomplished at Milton High School. It is also time to be mindful that this time of year can be stressful for our students. There are seniors are still waiting for their college acceptance letters while our ninth graders are preparing to take their first high school final exams. Other students are still balancing the demands of school, work and even an extracurricular activity.

My hope for our students is a healthy and successful end of the semester and for everyone a safe winter break free from stress.

TIPS/ADVICE FOR FINAL WEEK OF 1st SEMESTER
As we push into the final week of the first semester, we thought it would be helpful to provide some advice to help our students navigate the week in preparation for the much needed winter break. While this is not an exhaustive list, the hope is to share some ideas on how our students could best manage their stress as we head to the finish line of the first semester:
  • Take advantage of our DESTRESS WEEK activities
  • Study a little bit each day and don't stay up late; you need to get your rest and cramming never helps
  • Study in manageable chunks of time; take lots of breaks
  • Take breaks during study sessions to clear your mind
  • Join a study group
  • Make sure you know the help sessions and resources your teacher provides
  • Eliminate distractions like social media
  • Get enough sleep every night
  • Stay hydrated
  • Eat a good breakfast every morning
  • Come prepared with all of your needed supplies for the specific class and final
  • Take a break from your academics and take in one of our Holiday Concerts
  • Be confident in YOUR ABILITIES! Believe that if you do your best you WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!
If your child is not sleeping well or has noticeable signs of stress, please do not hesitate to contact our teachers, counselors, or administrators who are available to help.
DESTRESS WEEKDESTRESS
The Student Council is partnering with the Wellness Coaches at Milton to offer a De-Stress Week to students before exam week. A FREE treat will be offered each morning along with a cozy dress-up theme:
MONDAY
"Sweets and Sweats"-Candy Canes will be handed out in the atrium before school. Don't forget to wear your favorite hoodie or sweats!
TUESDAY
"Don't Stresso Have an Espresso"-Starbucks coffee and tea will be offered before school. Wear your flannel t-shirts!
WEDNESDAY
"Pastries, Plush and PJs" -Wear your favorite cozy pjs, bring a Snuggie or blanket and enjoy Dunkin' Doughnuts to start your morning.
THURSDAY
"Hot Chocolate, Rock Your Socks"-Wear your favorite crazy socks and beanies and enjoy a hot chocolate bar before school.
FRIDAY
"Chill-fil-a"-Pull out that ugly holiday sweater and enjoy Chick-fil-a chicken minis.

The Wellness Coaches will also be offering 28 free de-stress classes to students in the new Wellness Studio (downstairs by the gym).  Students can sign-up for three different types of classes on the following website by  CLICKING HERE
(QR codes are also located around the building)
Breathing Classes: Breathing classes will be offered before school and last approximately 15 minutes. These classes focus on topics of anxiety, stress, emotions, self-care, personal growth, inner peace and resilience while teaching breathing techniques. They help students find a calm and focus before class. Relaxation Classes: Relaxation classes promote deep rest and relaxation. Body scans and breath awareness are used to calm the nervous system leading to less stress and better health. Essentially these classes are "active" naps.
Movement Classes: Movement classes combine a physical practice with breathing techniques to strengthen muscles and relieve stress. Similar to breathing classes, movement classes focus on topics of anxiety, stress, emotions, self-care, personal growth, inner peace and resilience.

FALL EXAM SCHEDULEEXAMS
The FALL EXAM SCHEDULE & EXEMPTION POLICY are listed below. They can also be accessed by clicking on the following links:
MISSED EXAMS
Students are expected to be present and on time on all testing days. If a student must miss a final exam due to illness, the parent/guardian must call the Attendance Office on the day of the absence in order for the student to take his/her exam on the make-up days. If the Attendance Office is not alerted, the absence will be considered unexcused. The student must also bring in documentation related to the absence when they return to take the make-up exam.
CHECKING STUDENTS OUT
Students will not be allowed to check out while exams are in progress. Classrooms cannot be interrupted and students will not be allowed in the academic halls. For a student to check out prior to the end of the day, please have your student bring a note to the Attendance Office before the beginning of the school day.
Due to the volume, the  Attendance Office
cannot  accept  emails or phone calls at check-out time.
FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY
Student exemptions are intended as an academic incentive.
Students in grades 9 through 12 in semester courses ONLY are able to exempt fall exams.
The following guidelines determine exemptions:
  • No days of ISS or OSS
  • 90+ average (Honors/AP points EXCLUDED)
  • End of Course Tests may not be exempted
Teachers inform students of their exemption status on the Friday prior to the week their final exams are scheduled.
ECONOMICS EOCECONEOC
The Economics End of Course (EOC) Test will take place on Thursday 12/12/2019. There are two sessions. Notifications regarding the time and location of their EOC should be received from the student's teacher or their counselor by the end of the day Monday.
For any questions, contact Marvin Fullilove at [email protected].
TEACHER & PROFESSIONAL OF THE MONTHTOTM
Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to  Mr. Anthony Williams for being named December Teacher of the Month.
This is his teaching philosophy: My philosophy about teaching has always been to create a positive learning environment for all students. I also try to emphasize that failure and/or making mistakes should not be viewed negatively. Instead, we should view them as a chance to grow.
Professional of the Month
Congratulations to Ms. Casey Lahman for being named December Professional of the Month. This is what was said about her: Casey goes above and beyond to help all of our students, but especially our at-risk kids. She attends meetings, helps problem solve and supports their emotional and academic needs. She is a team player and always offering to help where she can. Her expertise and collaboration is very much appreciated!
