Fourteen of 25 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists in CCSD are AMHS Students | |
Congratulations to the 14 AMHS Semifinalists for a National Merit Scholarship!
Left to right (back row): Finn Hayes, Maxwell Peters, Joseph Gaddy, Henson Norvell, Jack Oakman, Julian Gillum, Brian Fang
Left to right (front row): Garrett Davis, Nikki Wu, Helin Bilgis, Lucas Oppelt, Bea Vaught
Not pictured: William Brodsky & Emma Fang
These 14 students represent more than half of the 25 Charleston County School District (CCSD) students on the list. They are part of more than 16,000 seniors nationwide competing for prestigious National Merit scholarships.
High school juniors entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. Learn more by reading the news release from CCSD at this link.

Last week and this past Saturday, AMHS had the pleasure of working together to raise and decorate the first annual Bonds Wilson Commemorative Holiday Tree for the Liberty Hill Community's Christmas on the Hill celebration. A warm thank you to Ms. McFadden for inviting AMHS to participate!
A hearty "thank you" to all who pitched in to create the ornaments and decorate the tree: innumerable AMHS & SOA students, NHS Advisor Kristen Vann, PLTW teacher Brandon Lovering, AMHS Librarian Lara Russell, SOA Librarian Jennifer Gomez, and Coach & Black Student Union Advisor Durel Butts. Special thanks, too, to Ms. Valerie Anderson - BW Alumnus Alphonse Mouzon's niece, who had the honor of hanging her uncle's ornament on the tree.

All are welcome regardless of your spiritual or religious background! With 314 acres of barrier island property, there’s always an adventure to be had! Perhaps you’ll sail or swim on the beach or launch a kayak into the marsh. Maybe you’ll lead a hike on one of our trails (we have 5 miles to choose from!) or host a campfire under the stars. And at the end of the day, you can watch the sunset from the boardwalk or from one of our beachfront cabins with all your new camp friends. Consider joining the team for a fun and rewarding summer leadership opportunity that will also help you reach your volunteer service hour requirements! Learn more at this link! |
