12/24 THE ORIGINS OF CHRISTMAS
Good Morning! While we all know that Christmas is to celebrate Jesus, how did man set the date and how did some of it's traditions start?
You see, we really do not know the date of Jesus' Birth or the other traditions of the time. In fact our holiday for Jesus is really a victory for Jesus as His holiday replaced a more demon like holiday. Maybe this is the reason God hid His actual birth date from us?
He gave us this joy filled holiday at a time of the year, in the northern hemisphere at least, when trees get bare, temperatures get cold and things can look dreary. We can think of it as a gift from a loving God.
I pray that you will look at it that way.
Now, Let us pray together:
Dear Father God,
In this season of giving, may we focus on your awesomeness, even to the point of hiding Jesus' real birth date, so that a demon like holiday could be superseded by a joyous one for Christians. And for them to tell your story at an otherwise bleak time of year.
