March 20 17
A.S. Government

Happy March, Spartans! We have lots of updates and reminders so get your calendars out!!

We begin the month of March with a celebration! The Associated Students 120th year anniversary kick off event, Way Back Wednesday, will be held today from 11:30am to 2:30pm at Tower Lawn. We hope to see you there! To learn more about our history, visit

Congratulations to Parin Patel, A.S. Director of Co-Curricular Affairs, and Sameer Saran, A.S. Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities, who were sworn in at the February 22nd board meeting.

Recently, the A.S. Board of Directors passed a resolution against tuition increase. We are advocating against the proposed $270 raise for undergraduates, $438 for graduates and $312 for credentials. The CSU has not raised tuition for five years because students advocated for it. We did it then, we can do it now! If you want to get involved, contact Juritzi Torres Mendoza, our A.S. Director of External Affairs at or visit the government office in Diaz Compean Student Union Suite 2300. To read the resolution, click here.

VTA has also proposed significant cuts to their services that will affect our commuter students, faculty and staff. Our efforts to advocate against these changes will continue until their final decision. If you are directly affected, we invite you to our board meeting on Wednesday, March 8th at 3:00pm in Diaz Compean Student Union Room 4A or contact Luis Cervantes Rodriguez, our A.S. Director of Community and Sustainability, at for more information.

In other news, we are aware that many of our students, faculty and staff have been evacuated due to recent flooding. Thankfully, the effects of the flood have been mitigated, but SJSU offers resources if you are in need of them.

For other upcoming events, Trashion Fashion will be on April 20th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Applications will be out this Friday! If you want to be a model or a designer, please apply and win some cool prizes. Diversity Day is also emerging on April 27th on 7th street plaza. If you are interested in performing or tabling, please email meOn Thursday, 03/02, we have Mega Game Day on Tower Lawn from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Come enjoy free food and giant games like chess and twister.

See you out and about this March! Spartan up!
