On Sunday, December 16, 2018, the Rt. Rev. Moisés Quezada Mota, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic, consecrated the building for the congregation of Espíritu Consolador in the city of Dajabon, one of the major border crossings between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. St. John's Episcopal Church in Naples, FL (Diocese of SW Florida), was the primary mission partner for the construction of this building. Missioners from St. John's worked in Dajabon for several years, and they also contributed significantly to the construction costs. Regulations for Medical Mission Teams Have Changed
|
Members of a medical team working in the Episcopal church in the village of Angelina. |
Recently the Dominican Republic's Ministry for Public Health has issued new regulations governing the work of medical mission teams. These new regulations include stricter requirements to submit copies of medical credentials for missioners and detailed inventory lists of all medications brought into the country, and mention the possibility of on-site inspection visits by representatives of the Public Health Ministry. One medical team from South Carolina did receive an on-site visit in December.
Patricia Martin, the head of the Dominican diocesan office for mission team support, is the designated contact person for liaison with the Ministry for Public Health. Her email address is <drequipos@gmail.com>. To ensure compliance with these new regulations, leaders of medical teams need to contact Patricia as soon as possible in their planning process. In particular, all information required by the Ministry for Public Health needs to be submitted to Patricia at least 30 days in advance of the mission trip so she can relay it to the Ministry for Public Health in time for the work of the medical team to receive official governmental approval.
