The Elton Hills Drive Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic from July 25-26, 2020. Traffic will be detoured around the bridge via 3 Avenue NW to 13 Street NW to Broadway Avenue N.
Pedestrian and bicycle access across the bridge will remain open.
This closure is necessary to allow space for consultants to conduct soil borings in advance of the design of the replacement bridge. The Elton Hills Drive NW Bridge is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2021. City teammates worked with structural engineers and state bridge experts to determine the most cost-effective option for repairing the bridge after structural concerns arose on the Elton Hills Drive NW Bridge in 2018.
The expected cost to reconstruct the bridge is $3.7M, with $1.4M of the funding coming from Federal funds. The remainder of the funds will be sourced in part by Municipal State Aid. The City also plans to apply for State Bridge Bonds to help fund the project.
