Seniors and Families,

It is the home stretch of first semester of senior year! Congratulations to those who have completed their POLs and hang in there for those who haven't yet.

The end of the calendar year signals the end of the application cycle for some colleges. If you are applying to colleges with hard deadlines (regular decision), that deadline is approaching on January 2nd.

Many colleges also practice rolling admissions. This means that you can apply any time, and receive an admissions decision on a rolling basis (usually a few weeks later). However, these colleges often have a PRIORITY deadline for financial aid and scholarship consideration which is likely approaching on Jan 2nd as well.

I am encouraging ALL seniors to have all applications submitted prior to leaving for winter break so that you can take a deep breath and enjoy some down time.

I've included a handy To-Do list for you below. Remember, I am always here to help. Stop by my office or schedule a time to meet.

What's should seniors be doing right now?

  1. Continue working on your college applications and update in Scoir. The regular decision deadline of January 2nd approaching! Remember, you must update your application status in Scoir in order for me to know I need to send your application documents.
  2. FAFSA - Send me a screenshot of your portal or forward me your confirmation page to satisfy this requirement. All students who do this prior to this Friday will be entered into a drawing for a Zia or Durango Joe's gift card
  3. Create application portals at each individual college to which you have applied. This is where you will check your application status and ensure that the college has received all application documents required.
  4. Once admitted (Congratulations!) - create your admitted student portal in order to access institutional scholarships as well as your financial aid award.
  5. Apply for scholarships! As soon as you are admitted, you can begin applying for institutional scholarships. In the meantime, you should be working on private scholarships. Check out this helpful resource on how to find and and apply for scholarships.
  6. Check for your financial aid award or a request for additional documentation (admitted student portal).
