American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2020 E-Update
October 2019 l Issue No. 1
Dear CvC Friends,

It’s that time of the year. Please mark your calendars as the 13th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health will return Sunday-Tuesday, May 17-19, 2020 . Because of coaches across the nation and their amazing friends, we’ve raised over $5 million net to benefit the American Cancer Society since the inception of the event.

A few important notes:

  • Shadow Creek and Southern Highlands will once again host the golf during the 2020 Las Vegas Classic. They are terrific partners and offer first-class courses.

  • Sanford Health’s commitment to this event - and to Coaches vs. Cancer nationally - keeps growing. We can’t thank Kelby Krabbenhoft and his team enough for their passion to fight cancer.

  • MGM Resorts International continues to make this event possible and we’re excited about the conversations we’ve had with George Kliavkoff (President of Entertainment & Sports for MGM Resorts) about growing the relationship. MGM Resorts’ impact on sports around the globe keeps growing and Coaches vs. Cancer is fortunate to have been partners for years.

  • MGM Grand will once again host golfers and our Sunday night party.

  • More news is expected soon about a special entertainment experience for Monday night.

  • Golf foursomes will remain at $16,000 for 2020. A waiting list is being built as demand is high. Contact lkruger@ou.edu to reserve your foursome.

  • NextGen Cattle Co., Nike, Top of the World, Comprehensive Cancer Centers, The UPS Store and Xs & Os of Success are all back as supporters of the event. Contact D.J. Allen at 702.339.0991 or dj.allen@xsosofsuccess.com for sponsorship information.
We’re excited to see many familiar faces in Las Vegas next May as well as some new ones. Again, thank you for all you do to help fight this nasty disease.

Good luck this season.

Sanford Pentagon to host Coaches vs. Cancer game Nov. 9
Oklahoma to face Minnesota in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Minnesota vs. Oklahoma men’s basketball game on Nov. 9 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. will be presented by Coaches vs. Cancer .

During the game, leaders from Coaches vs. Cancer, the American Cancer Society and Sanford Health will celebrate cancer survivors including honoring those affected by cancer with a moment of silence. Funds will also be raised for the American Cancer Society and the Sanford Health Foundation supporting the Sanford Children’s Cure Kids Cancer program.
Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger is the chair of Coaches vs. Cancer and Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino is also involved in the organization. Since 2017, Sanford Health has been the presenting sponsor of the CvC LV Golf Classic.

“This is a unique partnership that shows how passionate Sanford Health and the American Cancer Society are about health care and basketball,” said Kevin Lampe , president of Sanford Sports. “Teaming up for this game demonstrates the alignment between the missions of both organizations, and we are happy to help shine a light on this partnership in our home region.”
Farnham leads event to benefit LV Golf Classic
Youth tournament in SoCal raises over $23K
ESPN’s Sean Farnham - who serves as emcee of the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Classic - continues to fight against cancer. Two years ago, Farnham teamed with Josh McGrath and now Cal Lutheran head coach Russell White (pictured) to develop a summer basketball tournament in Southern California to raise money to support the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic. This year’s event grew from eight teams to 32 teams (one shown below) and resulted in a donation of over $23,000.

"My involvement with Coaches vs. Cancer, in particular Lon Kruger’s Las Vegas Classic, has continued to push me to find ways to give more,” Farnham said. “I am so thankful to Josh and Russell for their work to make this a huge success and look forward to continued growth."
Because of his continued support of Coaches vs. Cancer (Farnham also serves as emcee at various Coaches vs. Cancer events around the nation), he was honored recently with the 2019 Coach Dave Loos MVP Award.
