grateful
Are you grounded in gratitude? Last Sunday, Rev. Denise issued a gratefulness challenge—to post daily over the next 14 days something or someone for whom you are grateful. And some of you are right on it! Your posts remind both you and others the value of taking moments to be grateful for life, for breath, for each other, and so much more. Hopefully, you have felt like complaining less and celebrating more! You can catch up on the A Generous Life series HERE.

One Facebook post recently asked readers to choose one of four options, and I didn’t even have to think about it. One of the options was eight hours of sleep each night. I am so grateful when I get a full night of uninterrupted sleep. I send up a prayer of gratitude each morning when I wake up, with an added prayer on those mornings I awaken from eight hours of sleep. Even the mattress earns praise! Paying attention to these gifts help us lead a generous life. The larger generosity challenge is gratefulness even in the moments of difficulty.

Recently, the Houston Show Choir, at the recommendation of their new director Steven Shannon, approached us to be co-beneficiaries in their annual mattress sale. The topic of "choir and mattresses" immediately took me to the episode of Glee in which the kids joyfully advertise mattresses using them like trampolines as they sing “Jump” by Van Halen. We appreciate the offer to help many of us sleep better and help the church with a fundraiser where others do most of the work! That makes me very grateful. You can check out the flyer below and if you need a new mattress, come by the Activities Building on November 6, where in addition to the many mattresses on display, there will be live entertainment every hour on the hour, provided by singers from both the Show Choir and Resurrection!

This coming Sunday, we welcome Rev. Vicki for Revealed Through Prayer as we continue A Generous Life. I have really been enjoying the small devotional book that offers 28 days of devotions on living a generous life. Day 14 cited Anne Frank: “You can—always—give something, even if it’s a simple act of kindness!” Even when her family was in hiding during the Holocaust, this teenager chose generosity and kindness. Even if I have a ways to go, I’m choosing generosity, too.

Counting my blessings,

Troy

PS: I had the holy joy of adding more photos the offrenda. You can bring your photos and add yourself on Sunday or email them to me!

Not only are humans born to be generous, we are born in the image of a loving and generous God. And sometimes we need a reminder.

These 28 devotionals gathered into four weekly themes, inspire the reader to discover the powerful Christian principles of gratitude, prayer, and faith—leading them back to the generous life they were born to live.

The daily readings are written by the diverse group of pastors, business and church leaders, speakers, and authors who make up the Horizons Stewardship Team.

Caste Workshop

Please Register

Sundays Starting November 7th

Mondays Starting November 8th

Using the book Caste written by Isabel Wilkerson, we will explore the current social and political landscapes in America derived from the infrastructure of human hierarchy developed 400 years ago when Europeans first came to this land.

Wilkerson examines the different caste systems around the world and how they damage the lives of everyone involved, even those at the top. She believes that to understand how to move forward, we must examine the past and the racial structures that keep progress as a nation at bay.
Annual Estimate of Giving We know that generosity requires prayer and planning. We also know that living into generosity is transformative as we grow from feelings of fear and scarcity into the truth of abundance and trust that God is right here with you on the journey.

Your financial commitment offers spiritual growth for the giver, ministry growth for our church family and those in need, while also providing our leadership with information needed to strategically plan for how God will use our gifts together – time, talent, and treasure – in 2021.

You can make your pledge HERE.

Pride Charities, our partner agency which operates the food pantry at Resurrection MCC, relies on donations and financial support for the food needed to help the 175 families we assist each month. Please consider picking up a few extra extra bags of rice, beans, cereal, Vienna sausages, canned chicken, canned spam/lunch loaf, canned corn, canned green beans, canned peas, or any of the items found on this list. We are not accepting clothes at this time due to your generosity and our limited storage areas. To keep you, our volunteers, and our community safe, please place your donations in your trunk or back seat, pull up outside the pantry, stay in your vehicle, and our volunteers will remove the items from your vehicle. Volunteers will also be working inside the Clothes Closet this Saturday from 9 - Noon If you'd like to help sort, hang, and organize clothes, please be sure to wear a face mask. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you.
Set up online giving today using this helpful guide! You can register and make a one-time contribution, or set up recurring giving on a schedule that works for you.
Text Giving is a great way to give electronically. The first time you'd like to give in this way, just text the word GIVE to 281-346-9444. You'll receive a text back asking for the amount of your donation. After you've entered that, you'll receive a link to provide your name, email address, as well as your debit/credit card or bank account information. That's it! And the next time you'd like to give, all you need to do is text a dollar amount to that same phone number, hit send, and you're done! If you'd like to contribute to a special fund, send a text with the words GIVE LIST to 281-346-9444 and you'll receive a reply asking how much you'd like to give, and then another text asking to which of our special funds you'd like your donation applied (i.e. General Gifts & Tithes, Foundation First Activities Building Fund, Texas Winter Storm Relief, Pride Charities Food Pantry, La Casa de Todos).
