Dream Journal – February 2022
14th Feb is International Book Day
Are you a bookworm? Do you fondly remember immersing yourself in a good story as a child?

Reading is fun, but also a building block for all learning. Therefore we are working to ensure the rural schools where we work have a basic lending library. We are not talking about an expensive building, just 500 diverse paperback books for children to borrow. We are still 475 schools short of reaching our goal. The cost is $500 per school.

Do you know a school or a scouting group in your neighborhood that would like to participate in helping Cambodian village children with a gift of reading? Please contact donations to follow up for more details. Or donate online.
First New Preschools Welcome Children
Preschoolers excitedly take occupancy of beautiful and practical new preschools Thanks to Cordelia Chang who honored her late parents with their own preschools. Eleanor Soong Chang and Warren S Chang’s legacy proudly helps our early education program. The next 4 preschools will be completed in the spring.
Digital Literacy
The government has issued laptops to principals and teachers however, they have not provided training on how to make the most use of the computer. Thanks to a generous donation of $9,000 from Bastion Foundation, CCDO has stepped in to train teachers in 54 schools. Starting from basic Microsoft typing programs to setting up an email account and communicating with students during distance learning our savvy digits trainers are coving all the bases.
Rotary Plants Fruit Orchards
Rotary Club Sentosa along with Rotary International Global Grants have been building blocks of toilets and washstands in the rural schools. They very astutely foresaw a need for planting fruit orchards around the area for both shade and fruit. The first 9 toilet blocks have had fruit trees such as Papaya, Mango , Banana, Jackfruit, Sapodilla and Custard Apple planted. May they grow strong and fruit soon!

Many thanks to:
Rotary Club Sentosa, Singapore, PP Lydia Goh, Rotary Club Sentosa Singapore, Rotary Club Batu Pahat, Kingsley & Joni Foundation Pte Ltd, Singapore, RC Sentosa Board of Directors 2021-2022, RC Sentosa Charity Ltd, RC Sentosa Council of Past Presidents.
Donors
Our Dream Maker, Louise Williams generously donated $5,000 to our scholarship program. Louise has been supporting 5 students from 10th grade through university. Most of her lucky protégés have now graduated, but she continues to find value in providing support to our scholarship program.
Staff News
We have reached a round number of 30 on our CCDO Dream Team. We warmly welcome two new members to our CCDO Family.

Kimly Rob is exactly the kind of team member that thrives in our multifaceted work environment. She has experience in teaching English and Computers and she will also help with the mobile libraries. She is also a web designer and is passionate about helping young kids.

One of our longtime employees got an offer too good to refuse and decided to move on to the private sector. We were fortunate to hire a capable replacement Bey Beav to help with our new Digital Literacy Program. With his university degree in Computer Science, he has years of experience in the field, as well as teaching. We are excited to know he is also able to repair computers, saving us precious time and resources.
