FOSTER 15 CAMPAIGN TO

RECRUIT FOSTER PARENTS

We are teaming up with the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation to launch Foster 15, a foster parent recruitment campaign to raise awareness of the need for foster parents and encourage people to understand the requirements, goals, and expectations of fostering. The 15 and the Mahomies Foundation is donating $15,000, along with fundraising items for the campaign. Donors can enter a raffle now to win tickets to a KC Current game or receive autographed gear.

Approximately 18,000 youth are in foster care in Kansas and Missouri. While that number has decreased in recent years, neither state has enough foster families for the number of children in care. Though each state has its own regulations and requirements, anyone interested in becoming a foster parent in Kansas or a treatment foster parent in Missouri can contact us for a no-obligation chat to ask questions and learn about the process.

"We talk about foster parenting as being 'the challenge you won't regret,'" said Cornerstones of Care President and CEO Merideth Rose. "The first step in the process is to learn and have a hard conversation with our team and other foster parents to better understand how impactful foster parenting is for both the child and the foster parent."

JEFFERSON CITY MEETINGS FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS WITH MISSOURI OFFICIALS

Last month, Chief Programs and Innovation Officer Justin Horton met with 15 Missouri officials in Jefferson City to introduce them to our work. Catering talking points to each official, they also received a packet outlining our services, successes, and the key challenges we face.

While meeting Department of Social Services Director Jessica Bax, Justin discussed liability and insurance, prevention services, our in-home services successes, and our relationships with governmental agencies. "It's clear that she dove in with both feet since being appointed in December," said Justin. "She understands vulnerable populations, risk and liability, outside scrutiny, overreaching elected officials, and the complexity of our work."

The meetings are a first step in ongoing engagement with elected officials who serve in our areas and appointed officials in child welfare. Follow-up meetings will be scheduled to further develop relationships.
