Greetings Friends!

Well, we got the 15 inch “dump” from Friday, Feb 2 through Sunday morning, Feb 4, covering the slopes and filling in the moguls. It is always interesting to me even though this is about my 40th full time winter, that no matter what the subject of the day is - the snowfall becomes the #1 conversation if you are a skier. I actually flew to Florida Friday to “beat the storm” because I knew that storms like that on a Saturday or Sunday would have skiers lined up down the stairs and around the corner to get on the gondola- which of course was what happened. (See picture below). Also, the Highland’s parking lot was full by 9am. So, I will bike and swim this week to stay strong and go back in 10 days!

REAL ESTATE UPDATE

It seems to me that several listings that were priced unrealistically are still sitting on the market. My guess is that if you are looking to buy, probably sometime in late March will be a good time to make a cash offer.

MY COMMENTS ON STATS BELOW: YOU CAN DECIDE AS A SELLER TO STAGE OR UPGRADE TO SELL-OR YOU GET $2.300 PER SQ FT=VS= OVER $5,000 PER SQ FT FOR TODAY’S LOOK.

If you are a buyer-your choices are very clear if you are willing to do the updates yourself!!!

RESTAURANT UPDATES

Bartender and co-owner Jordan White pours a Last Dollar cocktail at Buck, a new bar that opened in December at 508 E. Cooper Ave., the same address as the former Cooper Street Pier. Co-owner Brad Smith has previously said that his intention for the new watering hole is to give locals and skiers an affordable option in downtown Aspen.

The other big conversation going through town these days is restaurants: value and pricing. Oh, and of course, how good the food is. So, the huge news is that a few ambitious locals somehow convinced the City “Leaders” to allow them to apply for a permit for the “price restricted” empty space in the basement next to Paradise Cookies. In the “good old days” that was the Cooper Street Pier and way before that Lucci’s Italian. Now known as BUCK, not only are local “ski bums” happily gathering, but even some of my “fancy” friends who just love the vibe and people watching ….

I have always loved Zane’s Tavern, and the Aspen space next to Little Ollie’s is really tiny, so GO EARLY! IN THE SUMMER IT IS ALWAYS FUN TO SIT ON THE PATIO. Eddie Zane was smart enough to open much larger versions of the sports bar in Snowmass Village and built his own building in Willits. TWO GREAT AND MUCH NEEDED LOCATIONS.

Regarding the more upscale restaurants, I had a fabulous meal and a great bottle of wine at PARC-the one-year-old restaurant that took the L'hostaria space across from the Art Museum. The new interior is charming French country with extremely comfortable chairs, and you can actually talk to your dinner partners without yelling! Obviously, Cache Cache is still excellent with the original owner, and Casa d’Angelo in the former Pinions has an interesting Italian menu -- and you will recognize the original sommelier!!

Jimoto founder sees opportunity for community

Jimoto, a Japanese word that translates to “local,” officially opened its doors at 616 E. Hyman Ave. in early December. The laid-back eatery is an order-at-the-counter kind-of joint that serves ramen bowls and soup dumplings, all made in-house.
