Yesterday was an overwhelming success as 15 sweet jetsetters, we are calling our Furry Fifteen, received their second chances in the journey of their lives.
A massive transport took place on Wednesday, August 23, as part of a coalition effort named Operation Grey Muzzle. The name signifies the large number of senior dogs who were on board. More than 200 dogs were saved from overwhelmed Puerto Rico animal shelters in an effort to provide room for them to take in other homeless animals as they continue their work with Humane Puerto Rico. As a result, these lucky dogs were transported to various rescue partners along the East Coast.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue is honored to be one of the partners in this effort to help these dogs continue their journeys.
Wednesday afternoon Big Dog Ranch Rescue successfully received 15 dogs during this transport! All of the dogs are safe and comfortable in quarantine as their health continues to be evaluated over the next 10 days. While we are told that the facility they came from was terrible and in desperate need of repair, the care they received was amazing. And it’s apparent when you interact with each and every one of them. You do not see broken spirits. You see their loving and grateful personalities beginning to blossom in just 48 hours. Now at the Ranch, they are receiving much needed outside play time, cuddles and even hugs as you’ll see in the video below of Sylvia and Tania with one our kennel technicians who is bonding with all of them.
We will be featuring a different dog from the Furry Fifteen on social media and our website when their quarantine period is complete, so be on the lookout! All of them will soon be available for adoption. We so grateful to be part of this effort and our hearts are full with gratitude to all those involved in this program!
