Required Vaccinations - 7th Grade Students

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is closely following the rate of immunization during the Covid-19 pandemic; immunization requirements will remain in place, even during Distance Learning. All incoming 7th-grade students in the 2020-21 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster shot (Tdap), administered on or after the 7th birthday (Td does not meet the requirement). Schools are a mechanism through which the state ensures public health and herd immunity, so we all need to do our part.

  • Provide an updated copy of your student's immunization record with your student's first and last name, date of birth, and proof of Tdap administered on or after the 7th birthday

  • The updated vaccination record should be received in the District Office before the first day of school on Thursday, August 20, 2020

  • If you are unable to meet this deadline, but are actively pursuing the immunization, we will extend your deadline to September 4. If you have not submitted proof of your child's TDAP immunization by September 4, your child will be disenrolled from MPCSD until we do receive it. We recommend that families immediately contact their health providers to set up appointments if they have not already done so.

  • If you received a notice stating that your child has unrecorded vaccinations for any immunization (Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (chicken pox), and/or needs a signed, written statement for a permanent medical exemption, you must also provide that information with the proof of Tdap booster.

Do not highlight or mark the vaccination record.

Provide the record by email to Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant here, mail to the attention of Nancy McMahon, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton CA 94027, or by fax to 650-292-2200.
Materials and Library books from last year
Must return by Thursday, August 20

If your family still has not returned textbooks and library books from last year, come to the office immediately to return them. This year’s students need them! After August 20, any unreturned items will result in a bill to your family.

2019-20 Yearbooks
Available in the office, waiting for pick-up for those families that purchased.

Schedules and School Hours
Hillview and MPCSD is following a 2-week schedule. All students will have an “A” Week and a “B” Week.

Students will be divided into two groups, the BLUE group and the GOLD group. The group determines what courses students will take during their A Week and B Week. To see the schedule by group (BLUE or GOLD), visit School Hours & Schedule here.

Families will receive an email stating which group, BLUE or GOLD, their student is in. Student class schedules will be published by Wednesday, August 18.
2020-21 Parent and Student Hybrid and Distance Learning Handbook

Each year, Hillview asks students and families to read and agree to our handbook, which explains all our expectations. This year, we are providing a condensed version of these expectations that are most important to starting the year successfully in a distance or hybrid blended learning mode.

Sit down with your student and read our 2020-21 Parent and Student Hybrid and Distance Learning Handbook here. Print and sign the last page to acknowledge that both student and parent understand the expectations.

  • Print and sign the last the last page of the handbook (along with the last page of the Hillview iPad handbook) and email the signed pages to Danielle O'Brien here.
or

  • 6th-grade students can deliver this document at iPad pickup as one of two required signature pages (the other being the iPad Handbook signature page here to receive their iPads

  • 7th and 8th grade students can deliver this document if they pick up textbooks on August 19. Or the document should be delivered to school when school is in hybrid mode. Students will need to do a verbal acknowledgement with their first period teacher when distance learning begins on August 20 and 21.

PTO News
We got this Hawks!

We wouldn’t be able to start the year off without taking a moment to recognize the gratitude we all feel for our amazing Hillview staff. When this pandemic began, Hillview was given little notice to shift very quickly to distance learning and figure out how to keep students engaged. Just like the rest of us, they had to balance home life and how to do their life’s work from afar while simultaneously caring for their own families, graciously navigating their own worries and stress over the pandemic while also converting their homes into virtual classrooms and offices. We also recognize that for many of them their summers were far from normal and were filled with countless hours of planning and replanning and just like us, waiting in anticipation and stress to know how we would be allowed to start off our 2020/2021 school year. We consider ourselves beyond blessed to have such dedicated and hard working staff members at Hillview. Thank you for everything you do!

While the start of our 2020/2021 school year may be disappointing to all of us, we know the spirit of the community will rise above these challenging times and come out stronger and more resilient because of it. The PTO team has been working on ways to adapt to the changes and come up with some creative ideas to help bring us all together. Our athletics team is developing new ways to offer Hillview athletics for the start of the year virtually, we partnered with ASB to offer a new and convenient way to purchase spirit wear and have been working on more detailed ongoing information on our website so parents have up to date resources to refer to as state and county guidelines change and our students schedules adapt to these changes.

Our commitment to the staff and our Hillview community is inviolable. We also really need your support now more than ever. Our One Community Campaign - the annual fundraising effort between the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF) is in full swing. We know these times have been challenging for all of us, our hope is we will come together and each family will be able to contribute whatever amount is most meaningful to you. Thank you for considering donating to our ongoing support to our Hillview staff and students. More information here.

Volunteer at Hillview 2020-2021

This year looks different than past years, but our teachers and students need us more than ever! To get a sense of the different types of opportunities available and to express interest, visit Volunteer at Hillview here.

Checking a box on the form only indicates interest, not commitment. Closer to the time of the event, coordinators will contact those interested to confirm availability. Given the uncertainty of the year, volunteer opportunities may have to be changed or canceled, so we appreciate your support and flexibility.

Email our volunteer coordinator, Kelly Morehead here with any questions.
