We are hosting an informational parent meeting to assess interest in a
16U K-Wings Tier II team for the 2019-20 season.
Over the years, KOHA has had seasons where there has been interest in having a 16U (Midget) team, but sustaining interest at this age has been difficult.
We are in a unique era for player development, and are beginning to see the skill acquisition and player retention at the older age groups. We believe that now is the time to look at building an age-appropriate, sustained opportunity for our 15 (and 16) year old players.
Our intent is NOT to disrupt our JV program - but to offer an option for late developers, so they aren't on the ice with kids three and four years older.
KOHA's vision is to be a destination for Tier II hockey, and to truly achieve that, we need an option for players who aren't yet ready for the jump to AAA or playing against significantly older players.
We would really like the opportunity to discuss openly with parents of 2003 & 2004 players this option - whether they're interested or not. The discussion and input would prove extremely helpful as we move forward in building this part of our program.
We are planning on holding a 16U tryout. Originally, we were going to hold that tryout the week after our other K-Wings tryouts, but we are working on securing ice to
possibly have one tryout the week of May 20th and the second night of tryouts the following week. We should have that worked out and ready to announce at the parent information meeting.
Please RSVP below to let us know if you will be able to attend.
Hope to see you there!
