Based on recent guidance from the Centers for Disease
Control (CDC), the State of Illinois and the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (NID), the leadership of the congregation has determined that beginning on September 1st, we will return to the mandatory wearing of masks, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, during worship and any indoor gatherings on our campus. While this decision is not made lightly, we believe it is in the best interests of our members and the community to follow the guidelines for everyone’s protection. We also believe it is important to
continue in-person worship and desire to take every precaution to allow in-person attendance. We know that the Lord is watching over us as we navigate these challenging times, and we ask for your prayers for His guidance and direction here at St. Matthew. As we receive further communication from the authorities, we will keep you informed. Thank you for your cooperation.

SAINT MATTERS Closes Shop - For the last six years a faithful group of ladies have been meeting once a week cutting and looping together pieces of plastic to make into plarn balls, that would become a plastic mat for a homeless person to use for sleeping. Now, after 6 years, we have not been able to get enough people to crochet the plastic plarn; so, sadly, we are going to stop making plastic mats. Our surplus supplies have been taken to The Senior Group in Libertyville, who also make mats.  In 6 years, we made 105 mats that were taken to the Police Department in Milwaukee to be distributed to homeless people. Thank you to Pastor and Deb Kinne for always getting the mats to Police Officer Chad.
I, also, want to thank all who faithfully brought their plastic bags for us to use for this project,  and the following people who helped with mats over the last six years:  Mary Lou Berrie, Gail Cooper, Karen Basler, Bev Eastep, Sally Henning, Marge Meyer, Pilar Norenberg, Margaret Polnau, Ellen Whers, Sandy Wunlock, Deanna and Eric Hagan, and Gene and Maria Bunte. - Helen Burnidge
C.O.O.L. (Christian Outreach of Lutherans) - a food pantry for some of the neediest families in Lake County. Please bring a can of food/box of cereal with you when you worship and place them in the bins in Luther Hall. September food item Canned Fruit.

Music Notes - “Give Me Jesus” is a traditional African American spiritual, not to be confused with the hymn by Fanny Crosby of the same name. This hymn has been made popular in recent years by Jeremy Camp and Fernando Ortega, but its roots lie in the plight and cry of slaves looking to Christ for hope.
Diane Dykgraaf was born into a hymn-singing family, and by age 10 was accompanying her school choir. She studied music and organ at Calvin College. Along with raising 5 children and teaching piano and organ, she led the music ministry in her church in Kentwood, MI. She has a love for traditional hymns, gospel music, and contemporary Christian music—anything that helps us worship.

HELPING HANDS MINISTRY of St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School is intended to provide critical emergency financial support. Please contact one of the Pastors if such support is needed. Contributions to this ministry are also welcome.
We had a wonderful first week at St. Matthew Lutheran Preschool. On the first day of school, Malachi greeted all the children! We spent the week getting to know each other and making new friends. Throughout the week, we learned about classroom safety, we went over drills and rules. The children enjoyed their first chapel and library visit. Thank you to Gail and Ron for volunteering to be our librarians again this year!
