I’ve made it my mission to ensure that residents of the 16th Ward are informed of all the resources the City of Chicago and my office have to offer. As your Alderman, I am working hard everyday to improve the quality of life for our residents and fighting to make our Ward a great place to live, work and play.

|
The Rev. Clay Evans, a civil rights leader, influential evangelical broadcaster and gospel music icon.
Clay Evans was an African American Baptist pastor and founder of the influential Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois famous for its gospel music infused Sunday service and choir.
Today we recognize
Rev. Clay Evans
as one of our 16th Ward Black History Makers.

The Honorable Shirlery A.
Coleman served as Alderman of Chicago's 16th Ward. Coleman was first elected in January 1991, serving for sixteen years until May 2007 .
As of 2017, Coleman is the only alderman to date elected in the 16th Ward for four consecutive terms. Coleman made history as the only African American Chicago female alderman who is an ordained minister and pastor. In 2019, Coleman was elevated to the status of Bishop.
Today we recognize Bishop Shirley A. Coleman as one of our 16th Ward Black History Makers.

The Honorable Anna R. Langford was a lawyer who became the first African American woman elected to the Chicago City Council representing the 16th Ward in February 1971. She ultimately served three nonconsecutive terms on the council.
Before being elected alderman, Langford was a civil rights activist, allowing the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to use her home to plan for a march on Cicero to promote integration.
Today we recognize Anna R. Langford as one of our 16th Ward Black History Makers.

Recognizing Mr. Richard Stamz - known in Chicago as "Open The Door Richard" and held the title of being the oldest man in radio. Stamz was one of the pioneers of radio in the black community.
He began his career at WGES in Chicago and worked with the legendary Al Benson. Stamz was the second African-American DJ in Chicago, following Jack L. Cooper.
Mr. Stamz was a proud 16th Ward resident and will forever remain a legend in our community.
Today we recognize Richard Stamz as one of our 16th Ward Black History Makers.

You can only apply for one of the other.
Either way, the required items needed to apply are the same:
- State ID or Drivers License, passport, CityKey or Mexican issued ID card OR Birth Certificate (push a copy of ID before the birth certificate)
These three items are needed in order for the applicant to fill out the application.
