Message from Alderman Stephanie Coleman

Greetings Neighbor,

As we prepare for the week, I want to update you on several key initiatives and events happening across our ward:

Arterial Street Resurfacing:

We continue improving our ward's infrastructure with street resurfacing projects. Current efforts include 59th Street from Wallace to Racine and Halsted Avenue from 65th to 69th. These upgrades are designed to provide safer and smoother commutes for all residents.

007th District Community Conversation:

The Chicago Police Department’s 007th District is hosting a Community Conversation focused on strategic planning to address safety and community concerns. Your input is vital in shaping our neighborhood’s future.

Turkey Giveaways Across the Ward:

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, several organizations are hosting several turkey giveaways to support families during the holiday. A special turkey giveaway will take place at Beautiful Zion MBC, 1406 W. 64th St., on Saturday, November 23rd, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Come by and let’s celebrate this season of gratitude together.

FEMA Assistance Deadline – November 19, 2024:

If you or your family were impacted by July storm, please remember to complete and contact FEMA TONIGHT to ensure you receive the assistance you need.

Budget Update:

The Committee on Budget is continuing department budget hearings to ensure fiscal responsibility and community-focused priorities. I also want to share that my colleagues and I have unanimously rejected Mayor Johnson’s proposed $300 million property tax hike. I remain committed to protecting the 16th Ward from undue financial burdens.

Lastly, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Elder Leon Daniels. His legacy and contributions to our community will never be forgotten.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the 16th Ward Service Office for all your city service needs at (773) 306-1981.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger, more united 16th Ward.

 Dedicated to the 16th Ward,

ALDERMAN STEPHANIE D. COLEMAN

FEMA can provide money to eligible applicants for help with serious needs, paying for a temporary place to live, home repairs and other needs not covered by insurance. FEMA assistance is limited to primary homes only, or the place you live more than six months of the year. Second homes, vacation homes or homes used as vacation rentals do not qualify for FEMA assistance.

Money provided by FEMA does not have to be repaid and may include:

  • Serious Needs: Money for lifesaving and life-sustaining items, including water, food, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, breastfeeding supplies, diapers, consumable medical supplies, durable medical equipment, personal hygiene items and fuel for transportation.

  • Displacement: Money to help with housing needs if you cannot return to your home because of the disaster. The money can be used to stay in a hotel, with family and friends or other options while you look for a rental unit.

  • Home Repair or Replacement: Money to help you repair or replace your home damaged by the disaster. The money can also help with pre-existing damage to parts of your home where the disaster caused further damage.

  • Rental Assistance: Money you can use to rent housing if you are displaced from your home because of the disaster.

  • Personal Property: Money to help you repair or replace appliances, room furnishings, and a personal or family computer damaged by the disaster. This can also include money for books, uniforms, tools, additional computers and other items required for school or work, including self-employment.

  • Transportation: Money to help you repair or replace a vehicle damaged by the disaster when you don’t have another vehicle you can use.
