16th Ward Weekly E-Newsletter
April 23, 2020

Dear Resident and Neighbor,

I pray that you and your family are doing well during the Governor’s Stay-At-Home Order.

If there’s one thing this crisis has shown me, it’s how everyday people have stepped up in helping any way they can. For example, organizations and their volunteers have safely delivered meals to our most vulnerable seniors, clergy have made their services available online, and neighbors have donated supplies such as masks to hand out to essential workers in the community.

These are challenging times, but there are ways in which we can do simple things to help one another. Try to check-in on your neighbors, give a friendly wave from a distance, look out for one another. Remember, this is new for all of us, but we will get through this together.

Very truly yours,

Stephanie D. Coleman
Alderman, 16th Ward
Competitive Grant for Community Collaboration Supports has been extended to Friday, May 15 th , 2020 at 5:00pm

Dear Community Partner,

Are you are community organization or community collaboration in Chicago that has been bringing people in your community together to support education outcomes? Is your collaboration interested in supporting the enrollment of young children in your community?

If you respond, “Yes,” to these questions, we invite your collaboration to submit an application to receive funding to increase enrollment of young children in your communities, with an intentional focus of enrollment of 4 year old children in Chicago Early Learning programs.

In March 2019, Mayor Rahm Emanuel released the  Chicago’s Roadmap for Implementing Universal Pre-K  to outline how Chicago can implement Universal Pre-K (UPK) in Chicago – targeting an initial 28 communities for the second year of roll-out and 35 additional communities in the third year.

To support this initiative, Illinois Action for Children is working with the Mayor’s Office of Early Learning, Chicago Department of Family Support Services, and Chicago Public Schools. This funding opportunity will support engagement and outreach to families in collaboration with community partners and providers to ensure all children are enrolled in a high-quality program.

Infrastructure Improvement - S. Racine Ave. Restoration

Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman is happy to announce that the street restoration of Racine Avenue from Garfield Blvd. to 59th Street will began Wednesday, April 16, 2020 and continue into May.
