Reflections on the Fall Semester


In a message to the Bowdoin community, President Clayton Rose writes of the wonderful highs and profound lows of the fall semester and offers a recap of the events that shaped the first half of the academic year.

December Dance Concert


The 2022 December Dance Concert, one of Bowdoin's most anticipated events of the year, featured performances by three fall-semester dance classes, plus a dance choreographed by Dylan Richmond ’24.

Art-Filled Center: December Open House Draws Crowds


Works from this semester's nine visual arts classes and three independent studies were on display at the annual Department of Visual Arts Open House.

Talented Students Provide a Feast of Music


The end of the semester is always a wonderful time for music lovers, who can expect concerts for days.

GOLD Challenge Champs: Banner Day for the Class of 2020


With eighty-three donors, the Class of 2020 won the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Challenge, earning the right to have their class banner hang once again in Thorne Hall. It will hang in the dining hall for the remainder of the academic year as a point of class pride and a testament to the collective impact alumni can have when it comes to supporting financial aid for current students.

Bowdoin Presents: This Is Your Podcast


Season two of Bowdoin Presents transports listeners back to the classroom by sharing the work and research of Bowdoin faculty and others in Bowdoin’s academic community. Listen in as award-winning independent radio journalist, podcast producer, and editor Lisa Bartfai engages in conversation with those who teach, inspire, and share knowledge on our campus. In the latest of several episodes already available, Birgit Tautz, Bowdoin's George Taylor Files Professor of Modern Languages, mines Germany's literary landscape to share gems about literature, translation, and how she works within the field of digital humanities. Fall Season Accolades

As a result of their phenomenal fall campaigns, numerous Polar Bears earned national recognition in men’s soccerwomen’s soccer, and field hockey All-American and All-Region honors. Additionally, an astounding 138 fall athletes were recognized in All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship awards announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. 


Winter Teams Hit Mid-Season Mark

As the calendar turned to December break, a number of Bowdoin teams found themselves in the midst of outstanding starts to their winter campaigns. The women’s squash team (6-1) enters break on a six-match winning streak, the longest for the team since 2008–2009. Meanwhile the men’s ice hockey team (5-1-1) and women’s basketball team (7-1) are off to quick starts under the direction of new head coaches. Action picks back up before the New Year as the women’s basketball, swimming and diving, and men’s basketball teams return to action before the end of 2022. Hall of Honor Nominations Opening

On the heels of an exciting ceremony and induction class in October, the Bowdoin Hall of Honor is now accepting nominations for its Class of 2023. Nominated athletes must have graduated at least ten years ago (2013 and prior), while coach, staff, and team nominations must have left the College at least five years ago (2018 and prior). Student Poets “Say What's Real”


Poet Weatherspoon ’25, in collaboration with The Bowdoin Review, invited fellow students to read their poetry at a recent concert. The event was part of Bowdoin's yearlong commitment to exploring themes in Octavia Butler's novel Parable of the Sower.

Student Researchers Follow Their Curiosity Where It Takes Them


Thirty-one students have received fall research awards this year from Bowdoin to advance their independent research projects. The grants are funded in large part by an endowed fund established in 2007 by Peter Grua '76 and Mary O'Connell '76.

Hundreds of Alumni Cheer on Women’s Ice Hockey 


More than 600 alumni, students, and members of the Bowdoin community flooded Watson Arena on Friday, December 2, to cheer on Bowdoin women's ice hockey as they took on Colby College.
