Winter Athletics Wrap-up

The winter sports season closed with a flourish as the men’s ice hockey team completed a thrilling and unlikely run to its third NESCAC championship with a 3-2 overtime win against Williams. The Polar Bears saw their season come to a close in a hard-fought setback to Curry in their NCAA opener on March 11. In addition to men’s ice hockey, the Nordic ski teammen’s and women’s swimming team, and indoor track and field teams all made NCAA championship appearances, with several athletes coming away with All-American recognition.

Spring Seasons Underway

The nationally ranked men’s tennis team opened the season with a stellar 7-1 record in California while the men’s lacrosse team enters April with five wins in their last seven outings following an exciting 13-12 win over Babson on March 28. The NESCAC regular season hits its stride in the coming weeks; complete schedules and results can be found on the composite schedule page at GoUBears.com.

Career Exploration and Development (CXD) Expands Trek Opportunities

Seventy students traveled to hot spots in the technology, finance, and arts world—Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and New York City—to visit alumni working in those fields and to learn more about careers they may want to pursue. In years past, CXD offered just one Tech Trek, to California, but it proved so popular, the office expanded its offerings this year to include an inaugural InvesTrek and Arts Trek.

InvesTrek: Students Get an Insider's Tour of Finance in NYC

Fourteen first-year students spent three days over spring break in New York City on CXD's inaugural InvesTrek, where they got a close-up look into the world of finance. There was a particular focus on students who don't have family connections or deep ties to the finance industry. President Clayton Rose has made it a priority to help students from less privileged backgrounds enter careers that can create generational wealth or savings that can be passed down to children and heirs to give them a solid start.

New Trek Offers Tour of Jobs That Make the Art World Go Round

For two whirlwind days over spring break, students on CXD's first Arts Trek sprinted around New York City—not so much to check out exciting new exhibitions and to learn art history, but to meet with the curators, gallery directors, conservationists, and other professionals who work behind the scenes to keep the creative industry humming.

Start-Ups, Silicon Valley Giants, and the Salesforce Tower: Students See It All on West Trek

Now in its eighth year, CXD's annual West Trek brought students to California to spend two days touring companies and chatting with alumni in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. This year's trek participants ranged from computer science majors settled in their career paths to students studying the humanities who are thinking of applying their skills to a creative and fast-moving field.
