Bowdoin Fall Sports Recap
The fall sports season ended with a flourish for a number of Polar Bear teams, highlighted by the women’s rugby team’s third consecutive NIRA Division III title over the University of New England on November 19. The men’s soccer team concluded a historic season with a run to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament, and were honored with a rare sweep of the NESCAC’s top honors. The women’s soccer team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as well, while the football team concluded their season with a victory over Colby. On the water, Christine Reimer ’24 earned a trip to the Women’s Singlehanded National Championship and captured an outstanding third-place finish.
Winter Sports Underway
Bowdoin’s winter sports season is underway in earnest, with several squads off to quick starts. The men’s ice hockey team is 4-0-0 for the first time since 2009, following an authoritative 6-0 win over UMass Boston at the Bowdoin-Colby Faceoff Classic on November 27. The women’s basketball team (3-1) opened the year by winning the UMass Dartmouth Tip-Off Tournament, while the men’s basketball team (3-2) has won three straight following a comeback win over Babson. The women’s ice hockey team (2-2) knocked off fifth-ranked Nazareth in overtime at last weekend’s Codfish Bowl in Boston. The men’s squash, women’s squash, and swimming and diving teams also collected early season wins to get their campaigns started.
Schedules and live coverage

Fall Magazine: What Water Teaches—and More
The fall issue of Bowdoin Magazine is out! In print and online, you can read about ways that water is not just all around us in the landscape at Bowdoin, it's also ubiquitous in a place you might not expect—the classroom. We have a great story about Ed Burton '91 and how he pieces together information in painstaking searches to make good on a pledge to leave no soldier behind; an interview with Dean of Admissions and Student Aid Claudia Marroquin '06 about the challenges of her work, the importance of kindness, and the role her personal story plays in assembling a Bowdoin class; an essay from Carl Spielvogel '13 sharing what he has learned from caring for a world of creatures; and a Q&A with Eric Ebeling '98, who steers a shipping company through geopolitics and other heavy weather. There are also profiles of Golden Owens '15, Drew Webb '68, and Gabriele Caroti '97—you can find longer versions of those three profiles and of Eric Ebeling’s Q&A, along with all the other features at bowdoin.edu/magazine. You can also send us your news from that same page. We want to hear from you!
