Fall Magazine: What Water Teaches—and More

The fall issue of Bowdoin Magazine is out! In print and online, you can read about ways that water is not just all around us in the landscape at Bowdoin, it's also ubiquitous in a place you might not expect—the classroom. We have a great story about Ed Burton '91 and how he pieces together information in painstaking searches to make good on a pledge to leave no soldier behind; an interview with Dean of Admissions and Student Aid Claudia Marroquin '06 about the challenges of her work, the importance of kindness, and the role her personal story plays in assembling a Bowdoin class; an essay from Carl Spielvogel '13 sharing what he has learned from caring for a world of creatures; and a Q&A with Eric Ebeling '98, who steers a shipping company through geopolitics and other heavy weather. There are also profiles of Golden Owens '15, Drew Webb '68, and Gabriele Caroti '97—you can find longer versions of those three profiles and of Eric Ebeling’s Q&A, along with all the other features at bowdoin.edu/magazine. You can also send us your news from that same page. We want to hear from you!

It’s Time to Nominate Alumni Council Members

New Alumni Council members will be elected this spring to serve a four-year term (2023– 2027). The makeup of the Council reflects the demographics of the alumni body and we look for those who can represent the interests, experiences, and views of other alumni. Please nominate someone who would offer a varied perspective and bring energy to the Council, is interested in engaging with other alumni on campus several times a year, and who would enjoy the opportunity to serve Bowdoin.

Submit a nomination.
