Students of God's Word

📖 READ - Psalm 119: 65-68

Do good to your servant according to your word, Lord. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.

It's back to school season! Even if you are not directly impacted by the academic year, take time to consider: what has God been teaching you lately?

BIC U.K. Celebrates 19 Baptisms

In May 2025, 19 people made public declarations of faith through baptism. They were all part of the BIC Church in the U.K., started by BIC missionaries from Zimbabwe in the 1980s.

Our videographer, Michael Bowlin, was there to capture the event. Watch our latest video to hear more of the story from BIC U.K. church leaders, Elias Moyo and Bonnet Moyo.

Meet Ralph Peterman, a lifelong member of the BIC and a BIC Foundation investor with nearly three decades of impact.

Ralph and his wife Lois both grew up in BIC churches and attended A–Street BIC (now part of The Meeting House – Carlisle) for most of their adult lives.

Together, they owned and operated Peterman Power Equipment, a farm equipment store in Carlisle, Pa. As their business became increasingly successful, they found themselves accumulating excess funds.

Ralph and Lois knew they needed to invest their funds somewhere stable, and Lois felt strongly led to give back to the greater Church.

She was the one who first suggested the BIC Foundation as a suitable option. After finding that the BIC Foundation met both their goals, the Petermans became investors in 1999.

They chose to invest in Ministry Term Certificates, an investment option that allows the interest earned to be donated to a charity, non-profit, congregation, or organization of the investor’s choice.

The Petermans decided to divide their earnings evenly between BIC U.S. Common Ministry and World Missions.

Since investing, they have donated over $167,000.

Upon hearing that six-figure total, Ralph became emotional. “This is what she wanted for our family legacy,” he said with misty eyes as he thought of Lois, his beloved wife of 61 years who passed away in 2020.

Her vision for their family legacy marked with profound generosity lives far beyond her and continues to impact countless lives around the world through the ministries they support.

This month, pray for:

- effective learning and meaningful connections for the 32 ministers gathering for Leaders Orientation next week; most are new to the BIC.

- wisdom and discernment for Leadership Council and General Conference Board members gathering for their fall meetings next week.

- students, teachers, parents, and children's and youth ministry leaders as they jump into the new school year.

One last thing...

We will soon be sharing official recordings of original songs selected from last year's Songwriting Initiative. Stay tuned!
