Dear Neighbors,

You can now file for benefits under the new federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program, which provides benefits for many who are ineligible for state unemployment benefits, including self-employed workers and 1099 tax filers.

Using this guide can help you get your benefits faster – especially if you are self-employed, partially self-employed, an independent contractor, or a worker whose wages and hours are not reported to IDES.

For more details, please visit the newly-redesigned IDES website.

PPE for Sale?
Join the City's "PPE Listing Exchange" For B2B Sales

As businesses begin to reopen around Chicagoland, it is important that the individuals who own and run these businesses exercise caution, per the guidance of public health officials. The City of Chicago wants to help these individuals connect with local manufacturers and small businesses that can provide protective equipment. The “PPE Exchange” is an online platform that will allow small-business owners, nonprofits, and other community organizations to connect directly with local suppliers to purchase PPE and prepare to reopen. The initial focus is on three categories of protective materials: reusable cloth masks, hand sanitizer, and protective barriers (e.g. plexiglass in front of cashiers/tellers).

The City has some basic requirements that you can read here. If you are interested in being listed as a supplier, please complete this form.

Sewing Masks for a Safe Chicago
Donates 13,000 Masks to Chicago Police

Thank you to Sewing Masks for a Safer Chicago which produced 13,000 reusable cotton masks for the Chicago Police. The masks are handmade by local seamstresses and tailors who are working full time because of the initiative. We are truly grateful to 43rd Ward resident Tanya Polsky, who spearheads this effort.

If you can't sew yourself, donate to this very efficient organization at its Gofundme page. Watch the CPD video here.
Remember, supporting our local businesses helps make sure they will still be here when this is over.

Peace,
