American Wave has officially secured the title of 2025 470 North American Champions after battling through four days of intense racing last week on Long Island, NY!

From strong starts to precise tactics, we stayed consistent and capitalized on key opportunities throughout the regatta. By the final day, we held our lead and closed out the event with a win!

But this championship isn’t just about results, it’s proof that the hours of training, rigging refinements, and strategic planning are paying off. The lessons learned here are shaping our next training blocks and fueling our momentum toward the Olympic Games.

Winning the 470 North Americans was an incredible experience, but the real growth came from what we learned on the water. We’ve already begun building a tactical playbook and breaking down key moments from the regatta to sharpen our decision-making for future races.

One of the biggest highlights was our downwind sailing. We felt fast and in sync, nailing excellent pumping sequences and smooth transitions, especially in the lighter air. Most importantly, our communication was a massive win. We were locked in on the course, the fleet, and each other, constantly planning ahead and working as one.

This event was exactly what we needed to test ourselves against a competitive fleet and proved that we have what it takes to keep climbing toward the podium on the world stage.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Jane Cammarata and Bernie DelBello for opening their home and hosting Team American Wave during the championship. Jane and Bernie went above and beyond to make us feel at home. 

They always had dinner ready when we returned from long days and made sure we had everything we needed to be prepared for racing. From helping us fuel up to ensuring we were rested and ready, their generosity and care truly made a difference in our performance on the water.

Another big shoutout goes to Doug and Jen Squires for trailering a coach boat all the way from South Carolina to New York for us to use during the regatta! Having access to the boat made all the difference, as our incredible coach David Bargehr was able to guide us throughout the event.

David's insights, strategy, and support were critical to our success, and without Doug and Jen making sure he had the tools to do his job, this win wouldn’t have been possible!

The incredible support throughout the regatta allowed us to focus entirely on racing, and we’re so grateful to celebrate this victory alongside everyone who made it possible!

The team will be training throughout September and October in Miami, Florida, splitting our focus between time on the water and developing the business side of our campaign.

We’re excited to be back on Biscayne Bay, putting into practice everything we’ve learned over the past few months and continuing to refine our boat handling, speed, and communication.

This training block is also an important time for us off the water. As our future plans unfold, funding becomes increasingly critical. We’re working on building new partnerships, connecting with supporters, and laying the groundwork for upcoming fundraisers and events throughout the year.

Sometimes, sailing seems easy. Off the water, it seems at times as though our work is just beginning. We try to stay fit, we train, repair, and tune our boat, study the racing venues, listen to our coach, keep in touch with family and friends, laugh a little, try to eat healthy foods, keep an eye on our competition around the world, order parts & gear.

And we fundraise!

Sailing is expensive, and we can't do it without you. We pay for everything that is not donated to us. We pay for coaching, clinics, coach boats, sails, 470 boats, boat parts, gear, air travel, communications, insurance, entry fees, and more. So be a sport and help us in our sport.
