Sunday of Orthodoxy & Saints of the Day:

The Sunday of Orthodoxy is the first Sunday of Great Lent. The dominant theme of this Sunday since 843 has been that of the victory of the icons. In that year the iconoclastic controversy, which had raged on and off since 726, was finally laid to rest, and icons and their veneration were restored on the first Sunday in Lent. Ever since, this Sunday has been commemorated as the "Triumph of Orthodoxy."To learn more about this Sunday CLICK HERE

Saint Eudokia, who was from Heliopolis of Phoenicia (Baalbek in present-day Lebanon), was an idolater and led a licentious life. Being beautiful beyond telling, she had many lovers, and had acquired great riches. Yet brought to repentance by a monk named Germanus, and baptized by Bishop Theodotus, she distributed to the poor all her ill-gotten gains, and entered a convent, giving herself up completely to the life of asceticism. Her former lovers, enraged at her conversion, her refusal to return to her old ways, and the withering away of her beauty through the severe mortifications she practiced, betrayed her as a Christian to Vincent the Governor, and she was beheaded, according to some, under Trajan, who reigned from 98 to 117, according to others, under Hadrian, who reigned from 117 to 138.

Main Sermon 2/22/26

Forgiveness is at the core of the Christian Faith, and because of this we cannot begin the journey of Great Lent - in growing closer to Christ through prayer, fasting and almsgiving - which begins with seeking and granted forgiveness.

Then it can be a "Clean Monday" (this is what the first day of Great Lent is called) for all who follow this format of forgiveness!

Youth Sermon 2/15/26

Today is on the Church calendar is Judgement (Meatfare) Sunday in which we hear the Epistle and Gospel readings which focus on how we are to live our life, and that is to have compassion for all.

How?

Main Sermon 2/15/26

Today our Church guides to begin a period of fasting on this Sunday known as Meatfare Sunday. Yet, the focus is not about what foods we may choose to abstain from, but rather our focus and the 2nd greatest gift Gods has given us (1st is Salvation) that being free will.

Where should our focus be during this time? What are some practical things that I do on a daily basis that I can refocus in and around my soul?

+PROSPHORO+

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.

A special website is available to share with the faithful this ‘proper’ method of preparation of the holy gift according to the Greek Orthodox tradition. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.
