2,000 wildflowers are now calling Prairie Woods home.

25 volunteers from the community, along with our Nature Preschool class and Prairie Woods staff, spent the day planting 2,000 native wildflowers across our prairie restoration areas. It was a hot one, but together we accomplished something that will benefit wildlife and everyone who visits Prairie Woods.

Many of the wildflowers were planted along our public hiking trails, where hikers, families, school groups, and other visitors will be able to enjoy the colorful blooms for years to come.

What did we plant?

  • Pasque Flower
  • Prairie Smoke
  • Phlox
  • Blazing Star
  • Butterfly Milkweed
  • Wood Lily
  • Gentians
  • Wild Onion
  • Native Coneflowers

...and many more native prairie wildflowers.

A special thank you to our amazing volunteers, including friends from Pheasants Forever and the Spicer Sunrise Lions, along with the many individuals and families who joined us. Every helping hand made a difference!

Thank you for helping to make Prairie Woods an even more beautiful place to explore, learn, and enjoy. 💚

Mission accomplished.
