Student Success KPIs measure:
- Student academic growth through an analysis of actual performance on standardized assessments compared to projected performance.
- Student academic proficiency through an analysis of standardized assessment scores.
- Social and emotional behavioral health through the district’s recently administered Strategic Plan Survey.
Engaged Employees KPIs measure:
- Employee satisfaction through the Strategic Plan Survey.
- Teacher retention through internal human resource data.
- Quality of professional learning through staff professional development survey data.
Operational Excellence KPIs measure:
- School safety through the Strategic Plan Survey.
- Facility maintenance through the Strategic Plan Survey.
- Fiscal health through a financial profile score determined through an independent audit.
Each of these nine data points includes benchmarks, or goals, for each year of the Strategic Plan. These benchmarks are ambitious, reflecting the district’s aggressive pursuit of continuous improvement. They were established with assistance from ECRA, taking into account the district’s historical data, expected trends, national data norms, and its mission, vision, core values, strategic priorities and objectives.
To be clear, each school and the district monitor many additional data points aligned to school improvement plans, departmental plans and more. The KPIs have simply been identified as the most important data points for our success. They are tracked publicly on the Indicators tab of CCSD93’s 2023-2028 Strategic Dashboard at www.ccsd93.com/strategicdashboard and are updated as new data becomes available for the community to see.
To this point, the district is generally meeting or exceeding its year over year KPI benchmarks, which become more challenging with each passing school year. You’re invited to spend time reviewing the interactive Strategic Dashboard, depicted in action below, by clicking here. Each data component is presented in a single overview and then can be clicked through to be examined more thoroughly. Starting in next week’s Enews, we’ll review the four KPIs measured by the Strategic Plan Survey and include newly acquired data from this year’s administration.

D93 Coats for Kids Program Keeps Students Warm
The D93 Kids Foundation is CCSD93’s nonprofit arm, which seeks to support our students to maximize their potential by providing warm winter apparel, school supplies and additional necessary resources to those experiencing need.
The warm winter apparel is provided in the form of winter coats, hats and gloves for CCSD93 students without them. We call this portion of our Foundation’s work our Coats for Kids program. School staff keep an eye out for students who may benefit from the gift of such items. They touch base with social workers and school nurses, who connect with the families for approval and sizing. The district keeps coat, hat and glove supplies on hand and fulfills them as needed, giving out hundreds to CCSD93 students each year.
The D93 Kids Foundation is supported by generous donations from staff and community members. To contribute, visit www.ccsd93.com/donate. To find out more about the D93 Coats for Kids program in this video!

Roy DeShane 5th Graders Pen "Declaration of Recess"
Fifth-grade students at Roy DeShane took their learning beyond the classroom by drafting and signing a "Declaration of Recess" as part of their American Revolution unit of inquiry! Inspired by the Declaration of Independence, students explored how they could promote life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in their own lives, ultimately identifying recess as an area where they could make a positive impact.
Using a student-friendly version of the original Declaration’s preamble, they enthusiastically collaborated to outline their vision for a fair and enjoyable recess, incorporating social-emotional learning strategies. The signed document will be displayed in their classroom and shared with school staff, serving as a reminder of their commitment to a respectful and inclusive recess experience.

Heritage Lakes Kindergarteners Make Waves in Their Understanding of Ocean Life | This week, Shedd Aquarium volunteer diver Miss Cindy stopped by Heritage Lakes to teach kindergarteners how animals, plants and other organisms rely on each other for survival in the ocean! She showcased scuba gear, had a student "prepare for a dive," taught underwater sign language, and shared how our actions affect the ocean and ways we can help. The lesson aligned with the kindergarten unit on the interdependence of living organisms within an ecosystem, and thanks to Miss Cindy, these young learners are making waves in their understanding of ocean life!
