Tamala will teach an Introduction to the Feldenkrais Method on Saturday, June 23rd. If you'd enjoy a "refresher" on the basics, I encourage you to experience Tamala's gentle and thorough teaching. And, of course, we'd appreciate it if you'd to tell anyone you know who might benefit from the Feldenkrais Method about the workshop. You can use the buttons at the top of this message to share this e-mail on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn (if you do that sort of thing). Or you can forward this message by using the link, "Forward email" located at the very bottom.

A week from tomorrow, Dayana will bring you, Power Center. Come learn about the Feldenkrais perspective on how to more effectively use your "core." As always, you'll leave Dayana's workshop with tips and exercises you can take away and do at home to continue your improvement. Dayana is a warm and dynamic teacher who brings humor and a sense of fun to her teaching. All the details on Power Center can be found below.

I had a nice turnout for the first part of my Pain-Free Knees, Healthy Ankles workshop on June 5th. I always appreciate an opportunity to "toot my own horn." (That's an expression my mother used to use. Anybody else familiar with that?) Below are excerpts from participants' feedback forms from June 5th:
Very thorough teacher...good presentation and knowledge of material--excellent.

I was very satisfied. Even though this was my first experience with Feldenkrais, I was able to follow well.

Very clear, thorough and calming.

The exercises were things I can do at home and most importantly they made me more aware of how I'm standing and the pressure I'm putting on my knees.

[Mark] did a great job. I liked his openness to questions/feedback but there were not so many questions as to get in the way of the work we were doing.

They make me sound great, don't they? I really appreciate the positive response. And I'll do my best to make the day-long, Pain-Free Knees, Healthy Ankles on Saturday, June 30th, a great experience, as well. The earlybird deadline is this Saturday, June 23rd. The upcoming workshop will be a great follow-up to the June 5th evening but will also stand on its own. All new material will be taught. Please join me for a day of discovery and improvement to the organization of your knees and ankles. More details and a link to sign-up are below.

We're less than a month away from The Feldenkrais Institute's first Four-Day ATM Intensive with co-founders, David Zemach-Bersin and Marek Wyszynski. Take a look at all the details in the article below.

Tuesday, June 26th

In these sedentary and technological days-in which so much time is spent in static, passive, and repetitive positions-finding and connecting the freedom of your pelvis with the flexibility of your chest can strengthen and energize you, while restoring your spine's real length. The pelvis is our body's main source of propulsion, and it has been found that integrating the powerful and big muscles of the pelvis with the mobility and elasticity of the chest can have many significant benefits in our daily life.

If you'd like to improve your posture, boost your energy level, or gain strength and endurance, this workshop is for you. Just want to feel better? Restore your emotional well being? Build self-reliance and stability? Give yourself the gift of finding your Power Center.

This three-hour Feldenkrais workshop with faculty practitioner Dayana Henwood will safely create the conditions in which you can find and activate your Power Center by awakening, imagining and integrating your pelvis and chest within yourself. Earlybird Deadline is Saturday!
Pain-Free Knees, Healthy Ankles
with Mark Hirschfield
Saturday, June 30th

Healthy knees and ankles are essential for ease in walking, climbing stairs, even moving from sitting to standing. The manner in which weight passes through knees and ankles and the resulting pressure on the joints can vary widely from person to person. Inefficiencies in the distribution or transfer of weight can lead to many common knee and ankle problems-including osteoarthritis, torn menisci, ligament strains, fallen arches and sprained ankles. If you experience knee or ankle pain or have done so in the past, or if you simply want to improve the comfort and stamina of your legs, this workshop is for you.

On Tuesday evening, June 5th and all day Saturday, June 30th, Mark will teach two related workshops to help you promote and restore strength, flexibility and dependability to your knees and ankles. You'll discover how the flexibility of your ankles can improve the functioning of your knees. Through easy to do exercises, you'll develop a greater sense of the ways in which you use your knees and ankles, in order to improve the ease and comfort of every day movements like sitting, standing, getting out of bed, turning and reaching.

You can take either of the workshops separately, but your experience will be much richer if you attend both.

These workshops will help you learn:

  • How to align your feet and ankles to keep your knees pain-free and improve your balance.
  • How your knees influence the freedom and flexibility of your lower back.
  • Secrets for using your legs and feet for effective stability, stamina and flexibility.

Date: Saturday, June 30th
Times: 11:30 am - 5:30 pm
Regular Tuition: $110.00
Earlybird Tuition: $90.00 through Tue., June 23rd

Restore and Rejuvenate in New York City:
A Four-Day Awareness Through Movement Intensive
with David Zemach-Bersin & Marek Wyszynski

The Feldenkrais Method is an exploration and a celebration of our human potential for change, improvement and learning. We each become limited by habitual ways of feeling, moving and acting but the Feldenkrais Method demonstrates that there is nothing permanent about even our most ingrained habits. Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais created over a thousand effective exercises, each one designed to use the plasticity of our brain, to improve a different aspect of our body's function and comfort.

This special Summer Awareness Through Movement Intensive will feature powerful Feldenkrais exercises that will provide you with an opportunity to achieve real and lasting change. Often, the relief and improvement we experience after doing a Feldenkrais exercise is lost when we return to our busy lives. This problem is solved if we allow ourselves a more sustained approach, a deeper 'immersion' in Awareness Through Movement. In this unique workshop, our old patterns of posture, chronic pain and tension will be reduced cumulatively, and replaced by new, more comfortable options. Intrinsically self-respecting and nourishing, you will find this deep immersion in the Feldenkrais Method profoundly worthwhile and valuable.

To support your success, each participant in the Summer ATM Intensive will have an opportunity to receive individual Feldenkrais Functional IntegrationSM treatments, before or after class, from our experienced staff at a discounted rate. You must call 212-727-1014 to book FIs in advance.

For those who live outside the New York City area, the Summer ATM Intensive presents an opportunity to enjoy a restorative and rejuvenating vacation, combining the benefits of doing Feldenkrais exercises during the day, with enjoying the sights and sounds of New York, at night. If you are a resident of New York, the Summer ATM Intensive is an opportunity to treat yourself to a 'staycation' during which you'll fully immerse yourself in the richness of the Feldenkrais Method, improving both your physical comfort, and sense of well-being. At the end of this four-day Feldenkrais experience, you will feel truly different... truly changed... truly better.

Dates: July 5th through 8th (Thursday through Sunday)

Times: Thurs., 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Fri., Sat., Sun, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Tuition: $500
