20 Valentine Coaching Tips to Help You Spot the Red Flags from the Red Roses

Greetings!

You can be forgiven for pouting, ripping your corsets or clutching your pearls and sinking into the nearest chaise longue. Valentine’s Day can be viewed as a cynical marketing opportunity for the greeting cards, florists or catering industries.

Or it can fill your soul with the reciprocated reassurance of love well met or, equally, make you the feel loss and longing of the lonely heart. If you’ve yet to find the Heathcliff to your Cathy you don’t have to wither or wuther but try a few new tactics to increase your chances of a happy ever after.

Here are 20 coaching tips for modern lovers – the red flags and love hearts to look out for when making one of the riskiest investments of your life.

  1. Love is not the same thing as compatibility. You can love someone but not be suited to each other.
  2. Control and trust issues are conjoined twins. The brain hates uncertainty, so some people try to manage it by managing you. Spoiler: it never ends well.
  3. If sharing your feelings sparks a row, your nervous system is not safe there. Emotional safety is the real aphrodisiac.
  4. If you keep catching rotten fish, it’s time to change the bait. Your BS detector might need a firmware update.
  5. Compromise is healthy; self‑erasure is not. Your prefrontal cortex likes balance, not martyrdom.
  6. Happiness is attractive because it signals emotional regulation. Needy activates other people’s “flight” response faster than a fire alarm.
  7. If you’re accused of nagging when you’re simply communicating, you’re being ghosted in daylight. Selective hearing is not a love language.
  8. People‑pleasers often attract narcissists because weak boundaries look like open doors. Upgrade your self‑worth and your dating pool automatically upgrades too.
  9. You’re not waiting to be picked. You are the chooser, not the consolation prize.
  10. Don’t fall in love with potential. The brain loves fantasy because it’s tidy. Disappointment beckons.
  11. If something feels off, your nervous system is whispering. Listen before it starts hollering.
  12. Actions speak louder than romantic dreams or promises. There are a lot of beautiful dreamers out there.
  13. You will never be “enough” for the wrong person. Their emptiness is not your homework.
  14. Mixed messages create self‑doubt because inconsistency scrambles the brain’s prediction system. It’s not you it’s their fear
  15. Beware the withholders. Anyone who fears praising you is terrified of their own smallness. Love should feel like sunlight, not rationed breadcrumbs.
  16. Don’t wait to be rescued. You’re not Rapunzel. Build a life so good you don’t need a rope ladder.
  17. Guys — listening is a neurological superpower. Being truly heard lights up the brain like a Christmas tree and it’s sexier than Lynx. Yes, really.
  18. Dating someone with trust issues means you’ll be stuck proving, defending, and soothing. They must learn to trust themselves first — no partner can do that heavy lifting.
  19. Know your worth. Your brain literally calibrates its expectations based on how you treat yourself.
  20. Soulmates arrive — and sometimes they leave. Their purpose is often evolution, not permanence.

You’re welcome, and let me know when I can buy the hat 😊
