ENJOY THIS VIDEO - Sir Stirling Moss and this Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Remain Unbeaten |
"Only Mercedes could build a car like that", says racing legend Sir Stirling Moss at the end of this stirring video, and the same can be said about the stunning "722" we have on offer in our showroom. To help celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of his epic achievement, Moss reunited with the race-winning Mercedes-Benz 300SLR #722, the reunion captured by the skilled photographers of Petrolicious. Any concerns that Moss's love for #722 may have waned over the past sixty years will be erased by the trademark bemused grin he displays as he fires up the restored car for a nostalgic romp. A fleeting moment, it speaks volumes about man and machine.
When visitors see this car in our showroom, they ask, "What is the 722? Is that the horsepower?". With gratitude to Mercedes, Petrolicious, and Sir Stirling Moss, I hope you enjoy learning the story. |

Motorcar Classics is proud to present this stunning 2007 Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition featured in Crystal Antimony Grey with Black interior. This 1-owner car that has covered just 1,300 miles. It is pristine and as-new in all respects.
At the 1999 North American International Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz presented their Vision SLR concept, inspired both by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe of 1955, which was a modified Mercedes-Benz W196S race car, and the design of closed-wheel Formula One cars, a field in which Mercedes had prior experience, providing engines for McLaren bodies. The car was presented as "Tomorrow's Silver Arrow" in a clear reference to the Silver Arrows of the golden age of Mercedes in competition during the fifties. Mercedes joined with their Formula One partner, McLaren, thus creating the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Reception of the concept car was enthusiastic, so it was slated for production. The first production model was presented on 17 November 2003. The SLR remained in production for six years.
A new version was introduced in 2006, called the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. The "722" refers to the victory by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.
The "722 Edition" includes a 5.4L supercharged V8 engine producing 640 hp at 6,500 rpm and 600 lb ft torque at 4,000 rpm. 19-inch light-alloy wheels are used to reduce unsprung weight, while modifications were also made to the suspension, with a stiffer damper setup and 10 mm lower ride height introduced for improved handling. Larger 390 mm diameter front brakes and a revised front air dam and rear diffuser are fitted. Exterior changes, other than the larger 19-inch black light-alloy wheels, include red "722" badging, recalling the original 722 racer, and slightly different tail lights and headlamps.
The SLR 722 can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds, 120 mph in 10.2 seconds and 190 mph in 27.6 seconds. The car can reach a top speed of 209 mph which is faster than the standard Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
You can have your own connection to this legend by adding our awesome and near-new Mercedes supercar to your personal collection.
