Introducing ...

Our world is in a crazy place; so much unrest and uncertainty.  But here at home in Richmond, Virginia, we're lucky.  We have families and friends we love.  We have work that is fulfilling and meaningful.  And we have an amazing group of team members here at D&P.  We'd like you to meet the rest of the Dunlap family.  Each month we will highlight one of our unsung hero's (and reveal their super powers). We've got some fun questions and even funnier answers.

Meet William (Bill) Proffitt.     You may see him hereWilliam Proffit or there and a select few of you may have spoken to him, but Bill is one we keep safely tucked away.  He is our Technology Manager and without him our contact with the outside world isn't guaranteed. Bill has been with us since 1996.

Nickname:
Mr. Bill from the SNL claymation character and in more recent years "The Doctor" because I fix technical issues.
Favorite Meal/Restaurant:
Thanksgiving - with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. made by my wonderful wife (just like mom's).
Best family of origin memory:
Picking out my Christmas stocking when I was three years old; the same one I still use toay.
Favorite Past Time:
Antiquing with my family
Favorite Book:
1984 by George Orwell
Favorite Restaurant:

Cracker Barrel.  It's the one place everyone in the family can find something they enjoy.

If you were a super hero, what super powers would you have?
Mind reading.  It would definitely make my job easier.

Ruminations from Dunlap
When we think of sustainabiliy, many of us think of recycling, smaller more fuel efficient vehicles, energy saving light bulbs and windmills.  What about "adaptive reuse" of buildings and facilities?  That can be just as green as solar energy and rainwater harvesting.  By utlizing what we already have, we save on demolition, construction costs, materals, energy and many other factors including re-using and re-purposing some of our most historical and beautiful buildings.

Richmond is paving the way "recycling" our wonderful old architecture.  From 200 year old tobacco warehouses into apartments to an old train station turned into a science museum, adaptive re-use is the "rave" in Richmond.

The lesson for all of us is to think "What if ...?", in everything - and imagine the possibilities.
