Thank you for your registration to the 2016 Atomic races. This is the 11th annual sprint & 14th annual half iron event. We hope you enjoy the race amenities, courses and have a great day of  racing!
Below are pre-race instructions, bike map, run map & Common USAT Violations.  Volunteers and Police will be assisting but drivers don't always heed signs, volunteers & Police - please be careful. 

Weather / Water:  Welcome to October! Chilly mornings and warm afternoons. Water temperature was 73 degrees this past Friday & expect wetsuits to be legal for both Saturday & Sunday. USAT officials will provide the official water temperature each race morning.

Live Results / Schedule: We will post the link for the Live Results on the Endurance Sports Management site as soon as numbers are assigned. Please review the time-tables below for schedules to arrive, awards, food, etc. Please let us know if you need to leave early to accommodate getting awards early. 

Finishers Awards: Sprints and Half Iron will each have custom acrylic finisher medal. Half finishers will also receive a custom finishers towel. Please make sure you get your awards! 

Lodging / Food: Here is a link to area hotels and restaurants that may be helpful. Most are within 5 - 6 miles of the park entrance.

Showers: the bath house right at the swim area has showers with hot water, courtesy of the solar panels on the roof. 

Refunds / Transfers: If you wish to receive a refund or transfer to another event, these have been enabled through your RunSignUp account. Please log in, click on your race, click request refund or transfer. We have extended this option until Tuesday, If you are looking for this option, please do not delay.

Welcome to the 2016 Atomic Sprint Triathlon / Duathlon. The events start with - triathlon with 500 meter Swim or Duathlon with 5K Run. Both events continue with 30K Bike and 5K Run. Water temperature was 73 degrees Friday (093016). Wetsuit ruling will be made race morning per USAT rules but looks to be legal. 
 
PACKET PICKUP & LATE REGISTRATION- PICTURE ID REQUIRED  Friday , Oct. 7th  -  5 PM - 6:30 PM at race site - see race location below. Saturday - Race morning from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM -  at race site. Registration is open race morning! Relays MUST come together to pick-up packets - no exceptions.
 
RACE  LOCATION - The TVA Melton Hill Recreation Area is located outside  Lenoir City TN just off Hwy 321/95.  The race site is about 30 miles West of Knoxville. From I-40 exit #364 towards  Oak Ridge  approximately 1/2 mile to park entrance on your RIGHT Look for Endurance Sports Management banner! GPS address : 2009 Grubb Road , Lenoir City , TN 37771 PARKING: Lower lots below dam - walk up hill to transition. Boat ramp gear / bike drop-off OK but no parking .

Remember to stay to the far right unless you are passing someone. Helmets must be buckled at  ALL  TIMES WHILE ON THE  BIKE . This includes warm up and after the event! No warnings! Please do not ruin your day by not wearing your helmet! Photo ID is required at packet pickup for all participants. Bring your USAT card to registration or be prepared to pay the $15 one-day fee. Course Map Links - Swim  - Bike - Run

DUATHLON START INFORMATION: Race will begin before triathlon with 5K run starting on roadway along campground, just outside transition. Stay right throughout course. First run & bike end near start of race by Bath House.
 
SWIM  START INFORMATION- Triathlon will start approximately 10 minutes after Duathlon to avoid bike/runner cross over at run turn around. The swim is a wave start from just outside the swim area at the dam end. The course will be a rectangular course finishing on the beach of the swim area. Keep buoys to your Right. Follow flagging/markings to transition area.   
 
BIKE TRANSITION AND  COURSE Bike racks will be on a first come basis. All competitors will be going through the entire transition area. NO RIDING ON GRASS. Bike will be mounted in the boat ramp lot and dismounted in the upper lot by the bath house. NOTE: Hwy 95 has paved WIDE SHOULDERS most of the route - Cyclists are to ride to the RIGHT OF THE WHITE LINE WHENEVER POSSIBLE.  Bike course heads out Hwy 95 to turn-around at approx. 7 miles - return to RIGHT on Bear Creek Road approx. 2 miles to turn-around at Central Training Facility - return to park - dismount in upper lot just past camping area. Cedar Bluff Cycles will be on-site for bike adjustments and help on the bike course.
 
RUN COURSES  -  The run is a scenic route within the TVA park. Runners will pass aid stations on the out and back courses twice. Each station will be ready with Base Performance and water. Finish down the boat ramp access & under arch.
 
POST RACE  -  Beverages / food will be available after the race. Splits will be available via result kiosks set up under pavilion & will be loaded to our website right after awards.

PASTA DINNER, PACKET PICKUP & LATE REGISTRATION-
PICTURE ID REQUIRED Saturday, Oct. 8th 5:30 PM - 7 PM at Melton Hill race site. Continues, Race morning from 6 AM to 7 AM at race site. Registration is open race morning!
Relays MUST come together to pick-up packets. Please have picture ID & USAT license ready.

SWIM START INFORMATION- The swim is a wave start from just outside the swim area at the dam end. The course will be two-loop rectangular course all outside swim area - finish on the beach of the swim area after second loop - NO EXIT LOOP 1.  Buoys will be kept to your Right. Follow flagging / markings to transition area. Water temp expected approx. 68. 
 
BIKE TRANSITION AND COURSE- Bike racks will be on a first come basis. All competitors will be going through the entire transition area. NO RIDING ON GRASS. Bike will be mounted and dismounted on pavement with short run through grass. NOTE: Hwy's 95 and 58 have WIDE SHOULDERS most of the route - Cyclists are to ride to the RIGHT OF THE WHITE LINE on these roads WHENEVER POSSIBLE. Bike course is shaped like a "T". Ride starts from the bottom for first and last 7 miles and completes two loops of the top for a total of 56 miles. Two water bottle exchanges at 22 & 43 miles. Cedar Bluff Cycles will be on-site for bike adjustments.  Bike finish will be in upper lot just past camping area.
 
RUN Course T he run is a scenic route through the TVA park, right on Woodlawn Road to left on Buttermilk, (Cones will mark course side of road - stay near cones to avoid cars). Follow to left on Davis Road to turnaround .2 miles past Rocky Top Road. Return back same route to first loop turnaround just inside park. Runners will pass 14 aid stations on the two-loop course. Each will be ready with Base Performance, oranges, pretzels, water and ice - Gels at certain stations. Timing mat at turn-around on Rocky Top passed twice for course verification. Porta-pottie at rear park exit.
 
POST RACE FOOD AND AWARDS Beverages / food will be available after the race. Splits will be available at result kiosks under pavilion & posted on-line after final finisher.
 
Awards are set for 2:30 PM or 7 hours from start. This is based on past years finish times. Please notify race officials if you cannot stay to get your award. LIVE RESULTS via RunSignUp.com will be available & results posted on our site approx. 4 PM.
